Issue When Copy Or Move Files With Queue (F2) Function In Windows 11

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Issue When Copy Or Move Files With Queue (F2) Function In Windows 11

Post by *chanlibell »

Hi

When the command to copy or move files with a queue, while copying or moving files, while typing or performing another activity with the software, it suddenly types a large number of those characters or repeats the issued command a large number of times.

For Example:
When I Want to delete a file (When files are being copied or transferred by queue), Delete Command keeps repeating
yesterday I Want To delete one File In A Folder, But All Of Files in Folder Deleted one by one And I Lost All Files In specified folder

I only saw this bug on Windows 11 and checked it on three different computers and the result was the same.

In practice, when I'm copying a file with the queue, I shouldn't do anything else with the computer because I might lose my files or get an unexpected command by repeating the keyboard characters.

Is there any advice to solve this problem?

Best Regards

Is this issue always reproducible on Windows 11 and if so, how exactly?

Hello

This exact problem always occurs in Windows 11 when try to move or copy files with the queue (F5>F2 OR F6>F2)

I mentioned one example and now for more clarity I will give another example
Let's assume some files are being copied in the queue

At the same time I type the letter t on the keyboard, Suddenly, the keyboard starts typing the letter t repeatedly and this automatic typing continues until the operation is stopped with the esc button.

It doesn't matter what this operation is, this operation on the keyboard can be typing or issuing a delete command. In the previous example, when I issued the delete command for a file as Shift-Delete, the entire contents of the folder were deleted.

I cannot reproduce that, sorry. Maybe a hardware problem (stuck key)?

thanks for your attention
It can't be a hardware problem, because I have checked this issue on 3 different computers with different keyboards.
I didn't see such a problem with the same three computers and Windows 10, but with Windows 11 it happens every time.

Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit TC?
Are you copying in the background to the same drive or different drive?
Are you copying 1 big file or many small files in the background?
Does it also happen when copying 1 big file?
Does it also happen when you use a fresh wincmd.ini file?
Does it happen in any folder being displayed in TC (folders that are not affected by the background transfers)?

I don't understand how pressing Delete can delete your files. I mean TC asks for confirmation, right? Repeated key presses would cause confirmation being asked every time?

Hi

Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit TC? = I use 64 bit windows 11 & total commander

Are you copying in the background to the same drive or different drive? = copying in the background to same drive also different drive

Are you copying 1 big file or many small files in the background? = Usually a large number of files

Does it also happen when copying 1 big file = I have not tried this.

Does it also happen when you use a fresh wincmd.ini file? = I didn't understand what you meant

Does it happen in any folder being displayed in TC = Yes exactly, This happens on every page of Total Commander that is active

I don't understand how pressing Delete can delete your files. I mean TC asks for confirmation, right? Repeated key presses would cause confirmation being asked every time? = Let me explain this: I pressed the Shift and Delete buttons on a file. It is normal for the file to be deleted without confirmation. When this Problem happens, it is as if the software is constantly pressing the Shift and Delete buttons and the files in the folder are deleted.

Generalize this to all keyboard buttons, meaning the last letter I type on the keyboard will start repeating automatically.

Maybe ( Maybe) I can take a film this process and show you, but it will take some time for me to capture this scene.

And are you using TC version 11.56?

Can you try? It is easier for people to try to reproduce your issue with 1 big file than it is with lots of smaller files.
chanlibell wrote: 2025-12-22, 09:19 UTC Does it also happen when you use a fresh wincmd.ini file? = I didn't understand what you meant
I mean, for example, when issuing this command in TC's command line:

Code: Select all

"%COMMANDER_EXE%" /i="%TEMP%\fresh wincmd.ini"
wincmd.ini is the main configuration file where most of the settings are stored. Using the command above starts TC using a user specified configuration file in the Windows temp folder. Since the file does not exist yet, TC will use all default options. If your issue also occurs with these default options, it makes it easier for other people to try to reproduce your issue.
chanlibell wrote: 2025-12-22, 09:19 UTC Let me explain this: I pressed the Shift and Delete buttons on a file. It is normal for the file to be deleted without confirmation.
No? Not as far as I know. Holding Shift while pressing the Delete key on the keyboard causes bypassing Windows recycle bin and delete permanently. It doesn't bypass the TC confirmation screen as far as I know.

(Edit: No confirmation is asked when TC is configured to use Explorer method for deletion, and Windows is configured to not ask for confirmation. But even then does holding Shift not cause confirmation to be skipped, instead it causes a confirmation screen to appear in the case where Windows Recycle bin is enabled.)

Would be nice. Please note that you cannot upload images or videos to the forum, but must host it somewhere else and provide the link here. And make sure that you don't share personal information.

Hello
Sorry for the late reply
I have been seriously struggling with the new Influenza for about 5 days now.

1) And are you using TC version 11.56?
Yes and also i see this problem From 11.03 version; Maybe even earlier Basically since I installed Windows 11

2) Can you try? It is easier for people to try to reproduce your issue with 1 big file than it is with lots of smaller files.
Yes, I tested both to be sure. Both with a large file and a large number of small or medium-sized files; This basically happens when the system is busy doing something with Total Commander.

3) I made a video of this incident, which I posted in the topic.
Please note: I want to rename a folder with the F2 command. When I start deleting the previous name, up to the first three characters are deleted by pressing the delete button, which is emphasized by the slow deletion speed.
But in the video you can see that the deletion speed suddenly increases rapidly and I had completely let go of the delete button after the first three characters.

https://filebin.net/zg78bryfzqw2fuqo/Total%20Commnader_2.mp4

Please pay attention to this point.
These sudden keyboard events may occur with any command, including deletion, renaming, copying, meaning that the moment this happens, the last keyboard command is constantly repeated outside the operator's will.

As I said in the first post, one of my folders had nearly 30 other folders inside it. When I tried to delete the first folder, Total Commander deleted all the other 29 folders.

I think the video I sent can convey my point fully and clearly.

Does the same also happen if you delete from the end of the file name wich backspace?

BTW F2 is not the default key for renaming (that is Shift+F6) - you must have remapped your F2 key.

How is this different from normal behavior when holding down a key, as defined by your keyboard settings in Windows?

How is this different from normal behavior when holding down a key,
Hmm, I read it as chanlibell deletes one character at the time (3 presses), but after the 3rd press the deleting continues by itself, without the key being pressed - but maybe I understood it wrong?

Or perhaps I misunderstood. In any case, it's good to have an explicit statement from OP about this so there is no doubt.

Yes
I explained in the first post and wrote deleting as an example
Any operation performed with the keyboard is repeated suddenly and a large number of times

The issue is that I have released the keyboard button, but the system is constantly repeating the command.
