Small request: Add 'Pause' button on main copy progress bar

Post by *cHiNgaChg00k »

Just noticed that it would be nice to have a 'Pause' button on the copy status window (the "normal"/"major" one which hasn't been sent to the background).

There's already two buttons: The center one is 'Cancel', the right button says 'Background'. Obviously a left button sayin 'Pause' is missing since there's only a blank spot :D

Use the background transfer manager (F2 instead of Enter in the copy dialog), there is a pause button.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Yeah I know the BTM is there, but sometimes I want to se the traditional transfer status indicator because of the layout (2 bars), but mostly because of the speed indicator being present at all time (more or less) in contrast to the BTM or the transfer status sent to the background, which both have the transfer speeds replaced again and again with filenames.

It looks "half done" IMO that 2 out of the 3 transfer status windows have pause buttons on them but the primary one doesn't (even though there's room for such a button).

I think that "normal copy" should be droped. Background copy is all there should be.

Please, NO!

Anyway - I don't think that a pause button in the "normal" copy progress dialog would be of any use - the dialog would still be in the foreground preventing you from using TC.

Imgine, you are copying 5G file. Halfway you realise that there is not enough room on the destination drive, or it simply reserves too much resources. Pause would be a solution, you dont want to abort a 20 minutes long copy operation.

Bad solution Sans

It can be solved much better... for instance TC can inform you "not eneugh space, please free some and click continue".

That is the solution to one problem. I just suggested two (amongs hundred) possible reasons, why pausing the copy progress would be useful.
(BTW, what if i dont want to wait until the target disk is full? It might lead to a total system freeze.)

Pause button

Post by *ChuckBuhler »

I like this idea too. Wouldn't be a daily use thing, but would definately have helped on a couple of my "Oh damn" days. When moving home directories, I like the status bars, as I can keep better tabs on what is happening. (I usually disable account, copy dir(s), compare, then delete the old dir.)

You usualy don't know that U don't have enough space. If you know it, then no PAUSE is needed since you will free some space before copying.

But how would you free the space when the TC interface is blocked by the copy dialog? That's why pause is on the background copy dialog: Click pause, then free the space, and finally click start to continue...

I can free the space with the second instance of TC.
But sometimes I need time to do it, just find waht I want to remove or move.

Of course not with Explorer but with another TC instance. ;)
