Were is T.C. key located on the registry.

Post by *TC56 »

I was just wondering were total commander's key is located on the registry because I bought a key a year ago and I want to copy the key in case when I install the new version it would get erased since theres no actual update link in the T.C. interface that I know of. :|

Welcome TC56
Total Commander Wiki wrote:Some files get overwritten when you install Total Commander on top of itself. You either need to back them up or change their attributes to read-only.
Helpfile wrote:[Configuration]
KeyPath= Path to the registration key (WITHOUT the file name!). As a default, Total Commander looks for the key in its own directory. Useful if key cannot be read over a LAN.

TC key is not stored in the registry, it's plane file.
Or to be a little more elaborate: The TC key is a binary file with the name of wincmd.key. It is by default placed in TC's program directory, but can also be placed elsewhere according to the KeyPath= entry in the wincmd.ini file.

Furthermore the wincmd.key file can also be placed in a zip file with the name of tcmdkey.zip. This zip file must NOT be compresed (compression level=0).

:) Hello !

• Hey ! The key is to protect the programme, so don't hope to read it !
- Only TC reads its key, it's designed in that goal, and “BASTA” !

To read the content of your key :
Lauch TC, go to the "Help" Menu and click on "About Total Commander"...

:) Again…
…Is not like I'm going to tell the world my personal s***…
• Whether you would have simply checked the Menus like Paul points out, you would have got the info you need…

• But the way in wich you asked for this sounded crack-like, and this is not welcome here…

I thank VANSUMSEN very much and hes knowledge and GOOD thoughts last but not least hes will to help would be known in this forums and to TC because people like you just complicate questions that have a simple answer to it and assume things that have no backup information to rely on.

By the way Clo i don't think is very good for your reputation to be treating former costumers with a smart*** attitude.

 I spent a mountain of hours, days, months, years to make a Tutorial - with the Paul's help now-
so I expect that new users consult it (also the provided Help and the Search here)
before to post messages like your first one…

• Everybody knows me here, and your opinion is a bit too quick-made.

Point noted - The End.

Isn't this insulting other users and by the way I wasn't insulting just sharing an opinion like he did.
