I would rather if the volume names followed the setting of Small83Names=

But there's no extension available over drive volumes. ;-)

Anyways, there's a discrepancy between how Windows and TC display drive volumes. It looks as if TC always forces to lower-case and even if all uppercase can also be consider inaccurate, possibly the ideal will be to mirror the Windows way or at least be able to configure this via an ini option..

Hello, pdavit.

I am not quite sure if your assumption
It looks as if TC always forces to lower-case
is covered by the facts.
E.g. inside the drive drop down list TC will display
C laufw_c
here (C drive_c) which seems to support your assumption.
But it also displays
D CD-Drive
E CD-Drive
F INTENSO
In particular the volume name "INTENSO" assigned to my USB stick by the manufacturerer does not support that T.C. forces the volume names to lowercase.

Inside My Computer, this is what Explorer will display:
laufw_c ( C: )
CD Drive ( D: )
CD Drive ( E: )
INTENSO ( F: )
This suggests that Explorer and Total Commander behave in the same way in this case.

Kind regards,
Karl

On my system TC shows all volume labels as written (mixed case) in Tree View and Separate Tree View. That includes local harddisks with both FAT and NTFS partitions, CD-rom disks and removable USB media.

In the Drive Combo Box and when hovering Drive Buttons all drive volume labels are shown as written, except for harddisks with FAT partitions - they are in UPPERCASE :!:

In the Square parenthesis [] to the left of the "Free space on drive" all volume labels are shown in lovercase :!:

In the Set Volume Label box (cm_VolumeId) the label is alway shown in UPPERCASE :!:

For empty CD-rom and DVD-drives the system string is shown (here "CD-drev") in all places. For empty USB-slots in USB card readers, the system string ("Flytbar disk") is also shown in all places.

For Floppy drives the label is shown in lovercase in the Square parenthesis [] to the left of the "Free space on drive". in the Drive Combo Box and when hovering Drive Buttons the string: 3½" is shown, whereas in the Tree View and Separate Tree View the system string "3½" - diskette" is shown.

I would prefer that the volume label on any drive in any place of TC was always shown as written in the file allocation table.

I agree with you. I think, that it would be correct.

How do I un-overwrite all my data?
