Strange resoult of Synchronize directories if one packed

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Strange resoult of Synchronize directories if one packed

Post by *_Jan_ »

Hello,

I was comparing 2 dirs, one of them was packet with 7z.
Compare by content was checked.
For the same files equal sign was not displayed but question mark remained.
No files were indicated as identical.

see:

TC7.5 RC2. The same 7.04.

From the help file:
Note: You can synchronize the following combinations:
- Two directories
- A directory and a ZIP archive (no other archives!)
- Two ZIP archives (not by content, compare only)
- A local directory and a directory on an ftp server
- A local directory and a directory through the parallel port connection

Yes, TC can't compare files inside of CAB, 7Z etc archives except ZIP by contents. Only by attributes.

But another feature that may be good - to mark files as equal after comparing them with dblclick in order to distinguis compared files and not compared ones.

The problem is that some archives (including 7zip) can be solid archives, so it would be EXTREMELY inefficient to unpack them in the order in which they are shown in the compare tool. Re-odering may work, but not when both sides contain such an archive (with different file ordering). Unpacking the entire archive before comparing would be an alternative, but there may not be enough disk space for large harddisks.

Therfore it's currently not supported, sorry.
