File search dialog does not allow Regex with Unicode

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

File search dialog does not allow Regex with Unicode

Post by *nemadeka »

I have a lot of Unicode text files among which I need to find
the ones containing "Directive" and "low voltage", which are
not necessarily together.

So, I go Alt+F7, Alt+T...

I discovered that checking the Regex box unchecks Unicode
and I cannot search.
I do not think it is intended. If it is, why? My example shows
that there are cases when you must search Unicode text using
regex.

:) Hello !
…I discovered that checking the Regex box unchecks Unicode…
• Which version of TC are you talking of ? Here with TC 7.5… both boxes can be ticked together… :?

Clo,
Are you sure you are talking about the text search options?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

I have 7.50a
Here is a screenshot.

The marked check boxes behave as radio buttons.

Am I right thinking that I cannot add attachments here?

There are two RegEx checkboxes in that dialog - it is the one marked "RegEx (2)" at the lower right bottom that can not be selected together with the "Unicode" box.

To guesss ?

Post by *Clo »

:) Hi Peter !

• Ah ! Right for this one !
- However, that isn't specified in the start message here, how do I guess ?

• Well, this behaviour seems intentional, but if so I would prefer unambiguous radio buttons instead of tick-boxes… :?

This is *not* useful, because the 1-rst RegEx concerns the file name and the other RegEx is about file contents.

Searching for text in Unicode files is currently impossible with regex, and unicode txt files and documents comprise the bulk of any translator's corpus of documents.

I hope I was clear enough.

Indeed that combination is currently not supported, sorry.
