Unwanted extension added when saving files from Lister

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Unwanted extension added when saving files from Lister

Post by *petermad »

If the "Save as..." option is used in Lister and the suggested file name is manually replaced with a filename without extension, then Lister automatically adds the extension of the current file.

If the file is an htm(l) file viewed in HTML mode (mode 5) and the suggested .htm.txt file name is replaced with a name without extension, then TC adds the extension .tmp

In both instances adding a period after the file name makes TC save the file with the wanted name without extension - but this is not very intuitive.

IMHO TC should save the file with the stated name, which means without any extension if none is stated.

This behaviour is by design, and it's due to how the "Save as" dialog works on Windows: Since it doesn't show the extension by default, TC has to pass a default extension to the save as dialog - otherwise it would always store the file without extension even if the user doesn't change the name!

OK

The workaround of placing a period at the end of the file name in order to save without extension is hereby passed on.
