Single file handled as name duplicate in MRT

Post by *Lefteous »

TC 9, beta 6, Win7 x64

1. Select a file in file list in a 'certain' path type (try network folder, folder in mapped network drive or symbolic link folder).
2. Open MRT
3. Make sure the file name and extension masks are set to [N] and [E] respectively.
4. Make sure the reg. express. are all unchecked.
5. Make sure the search and replace fields are empty.
6. Just change the case using the case dropdown
7. Rename the file in MRT
8. Back in the file list the file now has a '(2)' postfix

Expected: When the only conflict is the file to rename the postfix should be omitted. Of course this problem also applies when the same operation is performed on many files.

I cannot confirm this, neither in TC 32 bit nor TC x64.

I can't confirm this too....
It's impossible to lead us astray for we don't care even to choose the way.

I cannot confirm this either.

Could you provide a screenshot of the MRT dialog, just before you click "Start!"

Thanks guys for testing this. I actually overlooked a certain condition. I have edited my first post.

Just found out that the 1x doesn't make a difference. It seems I can only reproduce it on certain path types. Original report updated.

Third time is a charm ;), but I still can't reproduce it. I tried on different files on UNC paths and with the same folder mapped as network drive, and in "Users\All Users" subdir which is a symlinked directory - no automatic numbering happening here. Did you try this with a clean wincmd.ini?

Weird. I also tried with a clean ini and I can reproduce it any time.

Using the default settings [E] is checked in regular expr. settings but I guess that doesn't make a difference.

I have now tried it on network folders, folder in mapped network drive and symbolic link folders both linking on same partition and between partitions. - I still cannot reproduce the bug. Ttested with TC9b6 32- and 64bit.

What is the name and extension of the file(s) you test on - maybe it matters (non-english letters etc. in filename)?

Thanks for trying this is again and again.

I tried this yesterday and I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter at all. I just tested using 'hallo.txt'.

This is the 'result list' which I get when reopening MRT after renaming (in this case using the setting first letter of each word uppercase).

Code: Select all

"z:\Downloads\test2\hallo.txt" -> "Hallo (2).txt"
When I try to rename the same file in the local folder 'c:\Downloads' all is fine.

I made a mapped network drive z: pointing to my c:\users\username folder. Went to the Download folder and made a test2 folder and a hallo.txt file.

Opened the MRT and chose "First of each word uppercase" and clicked the "Start!" button - and the file was renamed to Hallo.txt.

Result list:
"z:\Downloads\test2\hallo.txt" -> "Hallo.txt"

Have also tried at the same time renaming (just case) other files like Hallo.doc and Hall.txt - no problems.

Also tried with a clean ini file - no problems. Have only tested this time with 64bit TC - is that what you use?

What operating system and version is running on the network server? Maybe a case sensitive system like Linux?
