Mind, you do not have to disable it. Just don't ENABLE it and you will never get your "nerves broken".
Well, it's not that simple.

One may wish to have the "when clicking "" " part active but not the "switching to other tab". :)

Re: Possible bug with cm_GoToRoot

Christian (or perhaps anyone else) i wonder, is there a reason that \ does not appear in the keylist under "redefine hotkeys"?

OK to summarize... how do we get this to work

Post by *Juno »

OK I've set my tabs to be locked but with directory changes allowed.
I've also followed Lefteous's advice, and set "LockedGoToDriveRoot=1" in my wincmd.ini file.

So now, when I press CTRL + \, the tab goes to the root of the drive.

I can no longer directly go to the mother folder of the tab with a shortcut key.

My question: is it possible to set a key to go to the drive root, AND ALSO have another key go to the tab's mother folder? When the tabs are locked but with directory changes allowed?

I've read thru this thread and still can't figure it out heh. Any help is appreciated. :D

P.S. As Wanderer noted, "cm_GoToLockedDir" and "cm_GoToRoot" do exactly the same thing under these circumstances. :x

Hi,
cm_GoToLockedDir" and "cm_GoToRoot" do exactly the same thing under these circumstances.
He wrote that before he knew of the LockedGoToDriveRoot option. This statement is true if LockedGoToDriveRoot=0 but not of LockedGoToDriveRoot=1.
is it possible to set a key to go to the drive root, AND ALSO have another key go to the tab's mother folder? When the tabs are locked but with directory changes allowed?
Yes indeed you may assign cm_GoToLockedDir to a hotkey of your choice. I have assigned it to Ctrl+Back for example. The old hotkey for cm_GoToRoot still works like in older versions.

Well, for me the perfect tab behavior would be just like a usual tab but with the possibility to set a user-specified root dir.

I don't like that the 'locked tab with dirchange' (which is a great feature!) goes back to its root on every tab change, I'd like it to stay in the last opened directory when returning to this tab. Because going to the tab root is just one keypress, but going down the tree again to reopen my last folder may be quite a way... (and the last folder isn't present in the history, so ALT+LEFT doesn't work :( )

So I would like to see either one of the following possibilities:

1. the 'lockedTabwithDirChange' should get an additional option like: 'gotoRootOnTabChange=0'

OR

2. The possibility to assign a root Dir to a regular Tab, e.g. an entry like 'set actual directory as tab-root' in the Tabs right Click menu.

or at least:

3. save the last open folder in a locked DirChangeTab in the history to have the possibility to go there back again easily after returning to this tab

This final option would make tabs behave exactly the way I would want.

Tabs: Locked but dir changes allowed - what's its purpose?
I'll tell you about my way to use semi-locked tabs. I have a collection of files, each set in a separate directory (say, Set01, Set02, ...). I often merge these sets, create new and delete old directories. To do so, it's very convenient to get to the "collection root" dir. So, I lock the tab with all set directories, but allow to change dirs. When I switch to another tab (usually to copy files to/from some set). and then switch back to the semi-locked tab, I always see Set01, Set02, ... ditrectory names.

For sure the lockedTabsWithDirChange suit well for your described task, but my point was to bring up the request I made in the linked post above, for an additional option to disable this 'auto-rooting' when wanted :)
