Help button not working

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

... in many of the newly introduced sections in Preferences. F1 key doesn't work either.

Hm, just tried F1 in all sections and the help-button in the new ones, and everything works fine here...

Which exact sections are affected?

Maybe this is another Vista issue?

OK. Thanks for checking. It seems to happen only when the .chm file is present. With the .hlp file everything is fine.

2petermad I thought so too... initially

What is the source of your .chm file? - it works fine with the one I have here! (still Win XP)

Just the one that I got too. Are you sure it works in the following sections of prefs: Icons, Refresh, Quick Search, Log File, Ignore List? It shouldn't IMO as it's clearly a 6.x version

You are right - that version is for TC 6.

This one is for TC 7 - but note is for a very early (alpha 6) version of TC 7:

http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/totalcmd_chm_700a6.zip

But it has help items for Icons, Refresh, Quick Search, Log File and Ignore List

Thanks petermad.

edit: BTW who dates such files? The .chm that I had is dated as 23.06.06. This one from you is dated 02.06.06. So much as being up to date...

I don't remember whether I got the 7.0 version in a zip-file or not. If I got it in a zip-file, the date will be the date that Ghilser gave it, otherwise it will be the day I downloaded it. So 02.06.06 is the latest date it could be created, it might be a little earlier.

But 02.06.06 is the first day when I see any references to the file in the beta forum, so it is most likely the day it was created. The download url for it was announced in an email which I unfortunately don't have any more.
So much as being up to date
Well, Ghisler has given up migrating to chm files for now.

Unfortunately CHM files have caused so many troubles that I have decided to stay with HLP files for now. If anyone is interested, I can convert the latest HLP file to CHM, though.

Well... ME  ... and this is not a Vista issue at all. I just can't stand those win 3.1 hlp files at all.

Issues like closing the help window with ESC look like kids talk to me.
