Menu spacing

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Menu spacing

Post by *Alextp »

In RC1 menu items intervals are bigger than in beta.
what causes:
- XP style option
- '&' in items

XP: seen here
Win7: not seen here

I can assume, Alextp means, that this behaviour is reproducible under WinXP and not reproducible under Win7.

Not with Win9x

:) Hello Alexeï !

• That doesn't occur here using a classic Win9x theme under XP-Pro.
- The spaces between the menus are not wider than formerly.

Sure it doesn`t :) .XP themes must be enabled to reproduce this. That is btw. a reason, why I cannot test this issue ;) I have this service disabled. :P

I have XP theme enabled, but I cannot see any difference between the vertical spacing of the menu items in the main menu.

Ahh, I never use that sh** - it makes me dizzy to look at.

Nevertheless - tried to enable it, and I still don't see any difference (execpt the hideous smoothing) - see: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/cleartype_menu2.png - or in Russian: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/cleartype_menu3.png

My system menu font setting is: Arial 10

Actually it's not a bug, it's a bugfix!

09.08.09 Fixed: Some Unicode display problems: Chinese tooltips on Japanese Windows, width of other language main menu bar items, alignment of Unicode text on buttons

The problem was that when you use a language other than the system language set in control panel for non-Unicode programs, TC was still using the Ansi name for the width calculation, and not the Unicode name. So in worst case, the width was calculated from ????? instead of the correct name, which resulted in far too narrow main menu bar items...

But if menu is now wider, than in the past with the same language on the same system, is it not meaning that TC reserves more space, than nesessary? Or you mean, that in TC<PB8 menu was to narrow not only for asian languges, but also for russian? The principle of the wide counting must be universal, the same?!

On your screenshots - not, but on Alextp`s it is(maybe a 4. factor affects this). Additionally I have seen an another russian screenshot with the same issue, which is not mentioned here. Unfortunately it is difficult for me to enable all this sh** theming and smoothing to see it on my own computer.

I use classic theme in all Windows versions because I cant set background colour in Aero (white annoys me). So difference between states of 'XP theme backgrnd' on and off is only in main menu line view. When 'XP theme' option is on, menu line items are much wider even for English TC interface (menus itself are don't changed).
