Paying for updates

Post by *Jqn »

Hi,
I tink that it is not possible to give a good service of update with a cost of 28 € (30$) for ONCE.
We ask very much Chistian but we have paid to him very little money.

I use many licensed programs, all of them more expensive than TC, and all of them charge some quantity on the updates. Not in EVERY minor update, but in the most important (Version changes).

Yes, I could order a new license for version 5, and another for the version 6, and so... But it is not a solution.

Which is your opinion?

:) Hello Joaquin,
 Though your idea be generous and kind toward the Authors, I don't think that should bring benefits and profits to TC and Ch. Ghisler & C°...
The unlimited trial-features and the unlimited registration-duration are together the best advertising for TC!
 But it's my own feeling only... We might hear the Ch. Ghisler's opinion about this (so similar to mine, I guess...)
8) Friendly regards,
Clo

Do you think support for TC is bad? Or the upadtes are too seldom? IMO it's ok.
I think that the price and its great licence for updates is one of the reasons TC is so popular (of course the main reason is the fact that it's so powerful tool :-) ).

BTW: Read this.

Why don't you donate the money you saved because TC is one of the few software pieces with a correct upgrade policy to some 'fund for poor shareware developers' or something like that? I heard that they were really suffering from hunger this year because many of them don't charge for upgrades.

I think that hypocrisy sucks, that's my opinion.

Total Commander is selling quite well, that's why I don't need to charge for upgrades and don't need to cripple any functions in the demo version.
Christian Ghisler
OK...
I did not know this Christian's response, I withdraw my offer...

:D Hello Joaquin!
 I understand that you may fear that TC disappears and C. Ghisler & C° closes down... I guess it's a respectable state of mind, which doesn't deserve some unfair reply  (follow my ganze...)
¤ But the one real danger could be this:

against which an efficient counterstroke could be this:

 If needed, a lot of registered users will help spontaneously, sure!
:) Friendly regards, and
Merry X-Mas!

Hi, Clo
Certainly.
I'm worried by the future of Ghisler & Cº (and TC, of course).

I'm an independent consultant, and I must work to eat. Every work without profit is a hobby, and it can be left in any moment, though it is a very good work.

(see cases on www.allapi.net or www.basicguru/rapidq).

I prefer paying slightly more of money, and knowing that the author obtains an interesting benefit.

BR & MC & HNY (best regards and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year)
Joaquin

Don't worry, I'm really obtaining an interesting benefit. :)

About the frequency of updates: Many people (myself included) don't like to update a working program every few weeks, especially if the program does everything they need. An update every half a year seems to be right...

Yes I agree! The frequency of updates is well chosen.

Info for people who need frequent updates:
Every week there are a few new or updated TC plugins - so something changes all the time :-)

I would like the frequent update of bugfix version very much!

Every time I look at the history.txt of TC's new version, besides the appreciated and surprinsing "Added" lines, the quite a few "Fixed" lines is really annoying, I can't help thinking I was useing a bugged TC, Although I rarely encounter the bug.

:D I agree! Moreover, that'ld cause a lot of extra-jobs to ß-testers and translators...
 I in first
Best regards, bien cordialement,
With my best wishes at all for the New Year,

I like this idea :-)
I think we all should put a small diskette in the upper corner of wind-screens of our cars :-)

:D Hi djk!
¤ That should be possible, but it's forbidden in some countries... Example: in France, this location was reserved for the car-tax stick (suppressed!), and too the insurance-evidence stick (not suppressed!).
¤ It could be "tolerated" if in a reasonable size.
It's a good idea, some TC-Clubs could think to it. We'ld get a visible TC-Legion World-wide :!:
 Unfortunately, I've no longer a car...
:) Friendly,
Clo

I could use the stickers to cover the rust holes in my car ;) But I think my car is going to die soon, so it would be a waste of cool stickers.....
