FOLDER DATES
Is there a method to preserve the original folder date, when moving or copying a folder to a floppy, zip, or CD?

Not right now, but the lack has been mentioned often in this forum.
The folder is created new at the destination, so gets the current date
Re-Setting the date directly after creation will change it back to current date with each file copied to it (at least at Win NT and newer)
Re-Setting the date after the whole copy process needs to store every NEW created folder and correct the date afterwards. (may somebody has copied a file there meanwhile? )
What happens to EXISTING folders ?
Not such easy to handle without having unexpected results.

LOL what a workaround! What if you wanna copy 1GB of data? You'll have to pack it,copy and then upack again.Takes too much time, dont you think? Adjusting the date of the folder after copying takes much less time thank packing and unpackingnorfie wrote:1st: It's not a lack!
This behavior is normal. Or anybody knows a file manager which is doing so???
2nd: There is a workaround: using winrar V3-GUI.
a) pack all files and dirs
b) unpack to destination

[face=comicsansms]This is a great workaround, providing you are not dealing with an extraordinary number of files. I tried in with a few folders that I like to have backed up and it worked quite well.norfie wrote:1st: It's not a lack!

I think there is a grain of truth in the post of Dominik.norfie wrote:Help!!! Where are the Men in Black? There are very simple-minded extraterrestrials on earth.LOL what a workaround! What a pitty! I guess only about 90% of professional Windows users use NTFS.norfie wrote:...
Unfortunately, this workaround doesn't work on destinations with NTFS.

SafeCopy utility allows the user to copy files and keep modified/created/accessed date/time stamps.
URL: http://www.attributemagic.com/safecopy_free.html
Have been using it for a while and it works a treat.

(So I'm not the only one who's a stickler on date/time stamps)
How to Pack Folders wihtout any files?
BTW:SafeCopy cann't copy include folders ,but files only.
