Better Explorer integration?

Post by *BIGPILOT »

Is it possible to get better integration with Windows Explorer? I for example use ToirtoiseSVN which is a SVN client built into Explorer. When I go into Explorer i get context menus which don't show up in TC.

Whis ones? Some Shell extensions rely on the fact, that they are running in Explorer.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Ask ToirtoiseSVN author to create shell extensions correctly so they can work in Total Commander.
If they are correct but rely on Explorer like SanskritFritz says, there is no chance. Total Commander is not Explorer and will never be.

Well, some Explorer features are definetely missing in TC so this is only 90% true. ;)

Then please reinstall the turtle as I have the Turtle in the ContextMenu:

TortoiseSVN does show up in my context menu! Maybe you have some older version installed? It shows the menu items "Update", "Commit" and a submenu "TortoiseSVN".

To get the overlay icons, you have to enable them in Configuration - Display, though.

OT: Just a quick question, do you have Subversion server on XP or Linux? I plan to install a server locally on my XP is it possible without too much hassle?

Yes, I have done this too to test the subversion overlay icons and plugins, it was very easy. Just install TortoiseSVN, then right click on a new folder and choose "create repository here"!

Thanks, I've done it, great software!
It even beats most commercial versioning tools, and i have tried quite some.
BTW, showing the overlay icons in TC seems to be much slower than in explorer. Is it because it uses a background thread?

Yes, overlay icons are loaded delayed in the same thread as EXE/LNK icons. This is necessary because some overlay handlers are really dead-slow.

Subversions Paradise

Post by *dark moon »

Hi there
I'm using Subversion, TortoiseSVN and TotalCommander and it works fine.

Setting:
Subversion 1.2.0

TortoiseSVN 1.2.0, Build 3602 (with Overlay cache :-)
- "Show only Overlays in Explorer" disabled
- "Show Overlays recursively" enabled

TC 6.53
- "View"->"Show Overlays" enabled
- "Operation"->"Left mouseclick (Windows Standard)" checked (for Context menu)

Additional I have some entries in the Startermenu (with Hotkey) like:
TortoiseProc.exe /command:update /path:"%P" /notempfile /closeonend:0

I'm lovin' it!

TortoiseProc.exe /command:update /path:"%P" /notempfile /closeonend:0
Explanations please ;-)
