tc help text incorrect (Directory history thinning)

Post by *oko »

tc help says:
Directory history thinning
Only add directory to the directory history (Alt+Cursor down) if the user stayed there...
A little bit confused. Thinning has effect on showing a dir in dir history list not adding it to dir history. A dir is added always to the dir history, but if the thinning is checked and dir does not meet the conditions it is not shown in list, but can be shown with alt+shift+down. If I am right, the text could be precised.

Sorry, I don't know how to better explain it. The directory is not added to the history list window unless you stay there for a moment or start some action in it.

I think oko is saying that writing "Only add directory to the directory history" could lead the user to think that the directory is not stored in the list file, which it is, it is just not displayed unless alt+shift+down is used.

So maybe this wording could be better:
Only show the directory in the directory history (Alt+Cursor down) if the user stayed there...

Exactly what I have wanted to say. I completely agree that "show" instead of "add" is much better to understand the function. As I notice the thinning works like a filter and a filter does not add/remove, it shows/hides.

Interestingly, the German help already uses show instead of add...
