Start Menu Items on Left?

Post by *CWBillow »

Is there any way to have items opened via the Start Menu to open on the right window instead of the left?

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !

- It depends only on which panel is active while you use a command from the Start menu !
- If you want something @ right, simply activate the right panel before (click on the title-bar of the panel, or press the TAB key to change…).
- The Help and the Tutorial are good readings ;)

Claude

But Claude:

I just did that (again): I have one menu selection set for my desktop. It ALWAYS shows up in the left-hand pane, regardless of which pane is presently active.

How come your's is different?

Tell us the start menu entry you are using: command, parameters, startpath.

if you're talking about Windows start menu so you may unlock the taskbar and drag'n'dock it to any of screen sides. or you may use some shell replacement such as GeoShell.
Thanks.

Claude:

No, I'm talking about TC's Start Menu -- that you can item favorite folders to for quick access...

Why don't you give the info I have requested above then?
Aren't you interested in solving your problem?

Ah, well... Clo, take over again please. ;)

:)

- First and a bit aside, that designation “Start Menu” is rather ambiguous, like one can see here :P
- I'ld prefer "User's Menu" -that is used in French-

• I just added "Desktop" (Bureau here) to my user menu, no problem. It works like I said above, as expected.
- When configuring that entry, you have just to type the title of the entry with its hot-key by a "&" before the letter in the field of the first small dialogue, then the command in the main dialogue -in the case cm_OpenDesktop OR 2121-, nothing more.
- In your <wincmd.ini> file, you must get something similar to :

Code: Select all

[user]
menu2=&Bureau
cmd2=2121

Clo:

I can surely use "User Menu"...

Now:

Instead of using "Desktop", I used the actual folder:

"C:\Documents and Settings\CWBillow\Desktop" in the Parameters, with

"C:\WinMgmnt\Files\Managers\Total Commander\TOTALCMD.EXE" in the Command line.

Shouldn't this work as well?

It doesn't.

What switch am I supposed to be implementing that I am not?

Use the following command:

Code: Select all

"C:\WinMgmnt\Files\Managers\Total Commander\TOTALCMD.EXE" /O /R="C:\Documents and Settings\CWBillow\Desktop"
see TC-Help 4.a Command line parameters

BTW if you had told these parameters to icfu you would have known this 5 posts earlier.

Sheepdog,
I actually think CWBillow is referring to TC's Start menu. If I am right, then the Command should be:

Code: Select all

cd "C:\Documents and Settings\CWBillow\Desktop"
(not sure about the quotes). The other fields (parameters, start path) should be empty.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Yes he is referring to the start menu, but he wants to open the desktop folder in the right pane. So what is wrong with my solution. I think it opens this folder in the right pane (as it would do in a button, too) while your solution would open the folder in the active pane - what is the right one probably only 50% of the time.

I am not sure of that, I think he just want to be able to open in the active pane:

So Clo's suggestion is alright: Just set the "Command" to cm_OpenDesktop and leave everything else empty: http://www.madsen.homepage.dk/tcmd/desktop.png

But it is not easy to guess what CWBillow really wants - he could express himself more clearly IMHO.
