Slow lister plugins for viewing images

Post by *mikeyww »

I notice that the image-viewer plugins are slow to load. I usually wait several seconds to view a first image with a plugin. It would be great if the delay were shorter!

Wich plugins are you referring to? Mine always load in less than a second.

I have several listers installed, including SGViewer, Imagine, MyViewPad, ICLView, anytag, AmpView, OOView, excellence. I generally view gif, jpg, and png image files. Perhaps the problem is that I have too many listers installed?

Maybe, I only have Imagine, ICLView and IMGView installed for images and that works OK.

It's normal that the first image load it needs a little time. TC only loads a viewer when needed. Every sequent runs should be fast though because the viewer stays loaded in memory until TC is closed or the command cm_UnloadPlugins is used.

Try putting Imagine to the top of the list of the lister plugins, does that help?

Also Imagine has an option "View -> Display while loading" which slows down image processing, disable it.

Thanks for the help. Imagine was indeed faster, but I found SGViewer to be the better viewer. I guess I will wait for the image to load. Yes, it is the first image that is the slow one. I wish there were a way to force TC to load the viewer on startup instead of when needed.

If it's too slow, try to use IrfanView instead (it's not plugin).

Thanks. I like being able to view the images with a quick plugin. . . .

Try downloading and installing the Intel jpeg library
http://wincmd.ru/files/ijl15.dll.zip
This should make jpeg displaying faster in SgViewer.

Thanks. I tried the ijl15.dll. It did not help much. I went back to IrfanView--by far the fastest solution!

Make sure you have activated the library in SGViewer options.

Thanks for the tip. I did not have it activated, but even after activating it, loading the first image is delayed. I did a few tests with a timer. On my machine, the typical SGViewer load time for the first image is 2-3 seconds. The typical IrfanView load time is less than one second--not a huge difference, though noticeable. I guess I will keep both for now.
