Drive icons

Post by *jb »

Total Commander 7.0bp2 has no special icon for VIRTUAL CD/DVD drives. Windows Explorer and SpeedCommander 11 use a different icon for them.

Total Commander 7.0bp2 has no icon overlay for SHARED drives as used by Windows Explorer and SpeedCommander 11.

By the way:
Total Commander 7.0bp2 has a very good icon for REMOVABLE drives (with green arrow similar to icon in system tray) ==> The user can recognize his USB memory stick(s) easier.

I would prefer the old icons for fixed drives and CD/DVD drives. They are more decent and crisp than new ones.

Old DLL still…

Post by *Clo »

:) Hello !

• I'm using an old external DLL for the drives icons, it works still… Here i.e. :
[Configuration]
DriveLib=E:\Icones\Dll-étrangères\MG_DriveBmp.dll
- I have requested that more entries be recognized from such bitmaps DLL, nope… :|

I like these new default icons.

What I'd like to see: support for icons defined in autorun.inf :P

edit: or at least some indication that there is a CD/DVD inserted in drive
TC for Linux please!

In my test setup, it has! :) Are you using the default icons?

Also, two notes about the icon:
1. It is very pale. I agree with you, it should be a little more vivid.
2. The overlay icon appears in the list only, not in the tree (either normal or "separate"). It would be nice if it appeared in the tree too.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Which Icon(s) do you mean? the overlay icon or the drive icons in general?

How can they be distinguished from real CD/DVD drives? And is there a way to distinguish CD from DVD drives, and readers from burners? I found no Windows functions to do this.

The overlay. I'm talking about the "sharing hand" under the folder. It's light blue, almost looks green. Perhaps if it was a little less "pale" and more "blue"...

Yes.

I see the "shortcut/link" overlay instead of the "sharing hand" overlay in the tree and in the list, but there is no icon overlay at all in the drive button bar.

Huh?

I see no overlay icon in the tree and in the file panel i see a normal "sharing hand" icon. Any chance you have created a junction or something? Does it appear like this with the default wincmd.ini?

I don't know, but as already mentioned: SpeedCommander 11 can tell the difference.

There must be a way otherwise it would be impossible to write an application like Nero.

Above I talked about the missing or wrong "share" icon overlay for shared DRIVES.
Now I discovered that indeed there is a pale "share" icon for shared FOLDERS.
When I use the default wincmd.ini the shared drives wrongly appear without icon overlay.
When I use my own .ini file the shared drives wrongly appear with a "link" icon overlay.
In both cases the "shared" icon overlay should be used.

Now that i see it in my WinXP laptop (TFT screen) with the default theme, the TC icon (the diskette) is also too pale. Both the desktop-shortcut icon and the TC window icon (small diskette) have that. Perhaps the "green" of the RGB values is too high. The b1 icons were too dark blue while the b2 seem too pale. Perhaps if you could try something in between those two...

Hm, I will try it. I hope I'll find a suitable and satisfying solution. As I'm loaded with work currently, this may take a little while.

Yup, i understand it's difficult to find a satisfying solution for both CRT and LCD displays.
