Comments about PassStore

Post by *wanderer »

A nice and very useful plugin. Something that includes even more functionality to TC and eliminates the need for yet another external program. :)

Here are some comments on the latest version (0.5):

1. When it's being executed for the first time, you are asked for a password. If you leave it blank and then doubleclick on "lock passstore", there is no way to unlock it. When you try to "unlock passstore", it keeps asking for the password and when you leave it blank and press OK, it says "passwords not equal".

2. In the readme, nowhere is stated what the INI's filename should be and where it should be located so i tried the following: i created a "PassStore.ini" and saved it in the same location as TC's ini. This didn't work. I then moved it into the plugin's installation dir and it worked. This means that it's not so easy for multiple users to have different settings and of course different locations of the database. Is there a way to at least use %COMMANDER_INI_PATH% (ok, you know that i mean :) ) in the "datafile" of the ini? It would be great if it can be done. Perhaps there are more standard ways to store the settings (a global plugins ini or store it in the same folder as TC's ini)?

3. Suggestion: in the "new entry" window, an "email" field would be very nice. In almost all registrations you use your email somewhere and if you have different emails, such a field would be helpful. Also, username and password fields should be near each other and not have the URL field between them. It might also be nice if the "new entry" item appeared at the top of every subfolder you enter, as it is done in the Environment Variables plugin for instance. This would also eliminate the need for the "folder" field in the "new entry" window.

4. When you press "\" in TC, passstore appears with all letters lowercase. Shouldn't it be "PassStore"? :)

5. In the new entry window, it would be nice if a tooltip appeared when you mouseover each "letter-button" with a small description of the button.

Thanks for this great plugin djorge. I hope you have the time to improve it even more.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Thanks for your words. It is always good to hear positive/negative opinions about my plugin.
When it's being executed for the first time, you are asked for a password. If you leave it blank and then doubleclick on "lock passstore", there is no way to unlock it.
I'm not aware of this problem. I will check it.
When you try to "unlock passstore", it keeps asking for the password and when you leave it blank and press OK, it says "passwords not equal".
I didn't get the problem with this behavior. How do you think this could be improved?
2. In the readme, nowhere is stated what the INI's filename should be
My fault. That's because the first version was creating the ini if not present and the behavior has changed. I will correct this.
This means that it's not so easy for multiple users to have different settings and of course different locations of the database.
Multiple users running TC with different INI path's? This could be possible with the use of COMMANDER_INI_PATH which is not supported yet. Sorry.
Is there a way to at least use %COMMANDER_INI_PATH%
No. This INI setting is only available in TC7 right?
The plugin supports only %COMMANDER_PATH% which was available at least in TC6.
I will add support for this new INI setting.
Perhaps there are more standard ways to store the settings (a global plugins ini or store it in the same folder as TC's ini)?
I think there is a plugin INI guideline somwhere in the forum....
3. Suggestion: in the "new entry" window, an "email" field would be very nice.
I think it is usefull too. I will add it.
Also, username and password fields should be near each other and not have the URL field between them.
I will check if how it looks.
It might also be nice if the "new entry" item appeared at the top of every subfolder
Do you really think this is usefull? I hardly use the new entry button. I always use Shift-F5 or F5 from another entry and modify it.
Maybe i can add an ini setting to let the user select.
4.
yes. It's easy to forget this....

This is the same issue. If the first time you had enter a blank password then when PassStore gets locked, you cannot unlock it because when you try, it just says "passwords not equal". If you wish i could describe you what to do to see what i mean.

No. This INI setting is only available in TC7 right?
No, this was actually a question to you, that's why i used the "(ok, you know that i mean :) )" sentence. I don't know if such a variable exists in TC but if it does you could just interpret this this the same way you do with %COMMANDER_PATH%. I believe it would help a lot.

What i mean here is that if there is a variable or any other way to get the location of "wincmd.ini", please use it. There must be something...

Yes, that would be nice.
