Just select the long-name files, press Ctrl+T to run the Multi-Rename Tool, then type [N1-12] in the "Rename mask: file name" box. Click Start! and you're done.
Obviously in the case you gave there will be a problem since both files will be renamed to the same name. The multi-rename function will warn you about the duplicate name and permit you to abort the rename.

A possible solution in this case would be to use a counter, e.g.
[N1-10][C:2]
[N1-10][C:2]

Always. Is the counter only added if duplicates names ar found or is alway added?
Search+replace is always acting on the entire name, sorry. For example, I want to replace all dots in a name for spaces except the dot for the extension.

You can do this by first replacing the extension by something like X[E], then replacing all the dots with <clear> and then replacing the X with a dot.For example, I want to replace all dots in a name for spaces except the dot for the extension.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
