Are PIFs for DOS archivers still really needed?

Post by *Slavic »

As it's known, TC installer places some PIFs to the %windir%, these PIFs are supposed to run the DOS packers/unpackers such as ARJ, LHA, RAR and PKZIP. However, nowadays only a small part of users have the DOS archivers on their PCs, others use the Windows versions of archivers and/or TC plug-ins and 32-bit unpacker DLLs. Moreover, for users of 64-bits Windows the PIFs are useless because of lack of NTVDM (and DOS mode) on such OS. PIFs are rooted from Commander for Windows 3.1, but this OS is no longer supported since TC 7.0.

I suggest to exclude these PIFs from default setup. For those who still really needs them, PIFs could be installed by request or be available via downloading.
