FTPS lock icon, 2 issues (TotalCmd 7b3)

Post by *pjotrb »

Hi,

After successful connection to an FTP site using SSL, the lock icon appears in the FTP pane.

Issue 1: Why is the lock open? Webbrowsers use a closed lock for a secure session, and an open lock for an unsecure session.
See image 1.

Issue 2: If I click on a drive button with the FTPS-connection still open, TotalCmd-7b3 seems to forget that it is showing the Lock icon, and paints the word FTP right over the icon.
See image 2.

Bye,
Peter

Click on the lock to see why TC thinks that the connection is insecure.

I cannot reproduce this error here on Windows 2000. Which Windows version do you use?

Aaaaah, the icon is a *button*...
That explains the color(?) of the icon - the server uses a general certificate, which does not match the website domain.

Still, an open lock means to me that there is no SSL or no certificatie (like in web browsers).
Also the lock stays open, even after I said Yes to the question "Do you want to trust this".

And I use Windows XP SP2.

I see - I'm also working for a solution for that: TC will store server aliases in the wcx_ftp.ini when the user chooses to trust the server.

In web browsers, no lock means unencrypted, an open lock means unverified, and a close lock means OK.
Also the lock stays open, even after I said Yes to the question "Do you want to trust this".
I received other complaints about this, so I will change it in beta 4.

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this error, neither on Windows XP with standard Luna theme, nor on Windows 2000.

What windows version are you using?

I use the Windows Classic theme, and nothing special on top of that.

Strange, I cannot reproduce the bug with the classic theme. :(

Do you get the problem with a fresh Total Commander settings file?

Just start TC like this:
c:\totalcmd\totalcmd.exe /i=c:\test.ini

It still happens with the specified (non existing) settings file.

Did you try it with the FTP account that I gave you recently? Maybe it is related to my "invalid" certificate, which causes the "open lock" icon to be used.

If you want me to test using a modified TotalCmd beta (with some kind of logging enabled), just send it to my e-mail address!

Peter

No, I tested with ghisler.ch. Do you get the problem there too? Just try an anonymous login.

I will retest with your server.

I just tried to log on to ghisler.ch + ftp.ghisler.ch, but I got no response:
Connect call failed.
It shows the IP address 204.157.1.65

Tried with and without SSL - which is only relevant after connecting, but still.

I could reproduce it now, and it will be fixed in TC7 beta 5.
