Newer version of SisView is needed

Post by *Bontchev »

The SisView packer plugin is a really useful idea. It allows TC to inspect the contents of SIS packages (the installation files for mobile phones using the Symbian S60 OS) as if they were archives (which, essentially, they are).

Unfortunately, its development seems to have died half a decade ago. :( As a result, it can display the contents but not unpack correctly the ER6 SIS files (used by Symbian S60 R2) and doesn't handle at all the SISX files used by Symbian S60 R3). :(

I wish the plugin author had at least released the source code of the plugin after deciding to discontinue its development - so that others could pick up...

Any plugin gurus out there willing to make such a plugin from scratch? I can provide Perl code for parsing and unpacking of SIS packages, if this is of any use.

Vesselin

OK, there is a better plugin - PDunSIS - which properly unpacks ER6 SIS files. It still doesn't handle SISX files, though.

Still the same with PDunSIS, I've a lot of sis files, but no one can be opened. :(
Is here anybody in there who can update one of these?

Strange; could you point me to such a file? Perhaps they are corrupted or are not SIS (but, e.g., SISX) files? I have yet to see a SIS file that PDunSIS can't open.

Hi Vesselin, thanks for the reply. All Software you can download here can't open.

There is currently no plugin for extracting Symbian 9 archives.
You can use standalone tool SISXplorer instead.

My German is a bit rusty, but all the software there seems to be for Nokia E60 phones. These phones run Symbian 9.1. This is not S60 R2 - it is S60 R3. S60 R3 uses SISX files, not SIS files (no matter what the file extension of the files at that site is). As I mentioned above, none of these plug-ins can handle SISX files yet.
