Strange TC pause after closing external viewer?

Post by *Alextp »

This is issue reported by UV user.
Can anybody confirm it?
Maybe with another external viewer, with Lister.exe ?

ben wrote:The annoying thing is the freezing (2-3 sec with my computer) of TC after leaving UV.
Some precisions (UV is used with TC as internal viewer with all plugins removed) :
If I launch UV (with F3 key), wait less than 4 sec, close UV => TC freeze about 2-3 sec.
If I launch UV, quickly press F9 (viewer setting), close the dialogbox, close UV) => no freeze.
If I launch UV, wait more than 4 sec, close UV => no freeze.
My pc is recent with a clean WinXP-SP2 with Avast!

Hm, just a guess: Weren't there similar issues with some virus scanners?

While I did use Kaspersky, I had a few-seconds-delay when closing TCs search window. Excluding wincmd.ini from scanning solved this. So perhaps the user should try to disable his Virus scanner and see if the problem remains...

I have just testet with external Lister, set up for use with F3 - I experience no such "freeze" of TC.

I think we'll not find the solution, perhaps this annoying freeze appear only on my computer.
Thanks anyway and congratulation for this useful freeware.

I have just testet TC7rc1 with IrfanView , set up for use with F3 (otherwise a clean wincmd.ini) - I still don't experience any "freeze" of TC.

So maybe some system setting on your side causes this?

Problem mit Total Commander 7
(German forum, Not solved)
Edit: Threadstarter Xervek is using the Taskmanager to manually end the process "ctfmon.exe".

Strange Timing Problem
(Explorer show the same non-reacting delay)

About 3 seconds delay after (some) external programs quit.
Problem was caused by Microsofts Ctfmon.exe.
Microsoft: Frequently asked questions about Ctfmon.exe wrote:Step 3: Run Regsvr32 /U on the Msimtf.dll and Msctf.dll Files

1. Click Start and then click Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, type the following command:
Regsvr32.exe /u msimtf.dll
3. Click OK.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the Msctf.dll file.

Indeed it's a bug in ctfmon, which I can reproduce even with two copies of Notepad.exe! It's not specific to Total Commander, and the only way to avoid it is to disable ctfmon.

There must be more to it than that - ctfmon is running on my system, and I don't have the problem. I guess that some other condition(s) has to be fulfilled for this to happen?

Maybe this thread should be merged with this one: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=103972#103972

Yes, either Internet Explorer 7 or the latest Office version must be installed. This activates the extended language settings which cause the problem.
