I appreciate this new function in RC2. It is amazing how much faster one can navigate through folder hierarchies.

However, I wish for:

1. Some way to toggle the behavior on the fly instead of editing the INI. For instance, when I enter an image folder I might want the highlight to follow the cursor but when I leave the folder, not.

2. Slow double-click support. That would bring back the easy "inline" renaming of folders AND allow (fast) single-click to open instead. The "slowness" could be configurable in the INI.

Just a remark to anyone that might not undertand what m^2 and StickyNomad are talking about when saying they use F2:

F2 has to be remapped to either of these internal commands: cm_RenameOnly or cm_RenameSingleFile.

I also noticed that setting InPlaceRename=2 (witch should be set to default IMO) should not depend on this option (now it does), so single click with visual feedback (underline) will possible fit every user (nobody really need 2 clicks here as you can do this only by hovering with your mouse, and you generaly don't click here by accident)

I can not find any documentations (Help, Wiki, History.text) about: InPlaceRename=2.

InplaceRename=1 Enable / disable inplace renaming when clicking twice on a name (1/0)

InplaceRenamePath=1
Enable (1) / disable (0) inplace changing of current path. The default is the value of InplaceRename, if present, otherwise 1.
2: Disable inplace rename of path, but enable quick directory changes with single click (no shift needed)

Is it just a Type error ?

For instance, as the cursor will follow mouse in that mode, F3 is basicly not functional as if you just move the mouse a little, you will open different file for viewing.

01.04.07 Added: When 4 is added to SingleClickStart value in wincmd.ini, the text cursor will no longer follow the mouse cursor

The folder will be opened after the first click (or the release of the button, dont know). Isn't it impossible to detect a second click in that case?

I could only imagine that TC can detect a "long single click" for InplaceRename together with SingleClickStart=2.

A long double-click (slow first, fast second) might work too. The long single-click would bypass the single-click open, leaving the folder selected. A different color highlight could indicate readiness for normal behavior (after the long single-click).

As renaming quite often includes typing characters using the keyboard using a hotkey is an alternative also for "mouse-centric" users

Another way is to add a button to the button-bar or use the mouse function key buttons.

I really don't like inplace rename. This click-wait-click approach is annoying. I set InplaceRename=0. If you click to fast you double-click. So why wait? Just use a hotkey or button and start typing.

Hmm, both of you have a point here.

"Mousers" can still use the contextmenu -item "rename" by rightclick, no matter which "mouse selection mode" is used.

I can live with such a small disadvantage for renaming (I have assigned the F2-Button for years, too) because the overall navigation is so much faster now.
