Dynamic file size ("b" instead of "B")

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Dynamic file size ("b" instead of "B")

Post by *alik »

Hi,

1) go to Options - Tab Stops - Size display - dynamic (x k/M/G)
2) Find a file which is smaller than 1kB
3) See, that the size suffix is "b", even a number of bytes is shown.

Expected: "B" is the right shortut for "bytes", because "b" means "bites".

Valid for 6.56, 7.0 RC3.

Good evening, alik.

I assume one of the threads which Sir_SiLvA had in mind was this one: proper (standardized) file size symbols?.

There is a German thread as well: KiloByte = 1024 Byte? (If you do not understand German, then do not worry, no argument that was not brought up in the English thread as well)

Hi,

thank you for the link.

My report is slightly different. I am not complaining about the difference between "Mi" and "M" (which is really misused widely); but about "b" and "B", which does mean something different even we are only in the computer world. I hope you understand the difference.

Maybe it has not been officially standardized yet, but it is more-or-less standard (see http://www.bisnotb.com/, which is linked from the same section as you have linked to).
