Good idea! But you should ask Irfan Skiljan about this.

A good idea indeed. For some years now, I have had contact with Irfan Skiljan about several issues and suggestions.
During that, I sometimes felt the need too for an existing forum concerning IV.
There are a huge number of users of IV, so maybe this need for a forum appears to be quite common.
So at least you've triggered me to send a request to Mr. Skiljan about this.
In the meantime, as a small contribution, I have pages on my site with some data about using IV. (Still have to update there from 3.95) :

Hi
Total Commander Wiki has a category: "Useful tools to be used with Total Commander",
within there is the category: Viewers.
In there are existing pages for:
IrfanView
XnView
Imagine

You could easily add more viewers into there and edit existing papes by creating new links:

Wiki-syntax

Code: Select all

[[New extract method for thumbnails]]
This is just an example but shows features from Irfanview related to Total Commander. Could that ever be offtopic?

Kind regards
Stance

Ah, finally. After so many years of waiting:
New display option: Center image in window (Menu: View->Display options)
This was the sole reason why I didn't use this progy, besides fantasticly bad configuration interface. I already told Irfan that he should update this to be similar to new standard TC is using also, but he replied he don't know if he can do it ?! as he is using C to create IrfanView... Well.. i guess we will not have better config soon.

The new feature "Toolbar skin" was added in v4. Have a look at IrfanViews "fantasticly bad configuration interface" :) and you will find some of Samuels artwork in there !
Very nice, thanks !

Irfanview is still the best image viewer IMO :)

I've tried XNView and Faststone viewer several times, for some of the more advanced features (the "explorer-style" stuff in xnview is nice, but TC + Irfanview is better), but my experiences with them have never come close to my experiences with Irfanview.

I use Irfan View since about 2.85, and since then I didn't even tried to find better viewers.
And it's far more than a viewer. I use it very frequently as a graphic editor with a nice set of basic tools.
It can do a lot of tasks without having to start heavy apps like Photoshop. Cropping a bitmap, converting a group of files in batch-mode, stitching pics together, compatible with most imported .8bf plugins to make effects, getting tech info about a certain bitmap.

Well, even Irfan agree with this but as I said, he doesn't know how to create tree view interface. I would post here our mail discussion if it wasn't on Serbian.

I even proopsed him to drop configuration and create separate executable to handle this, in CLCL manner, but I guess he didn't like it, although it would remove configuration overhead for viewer (you don't do config every day, but generaly once)

And I must change my opinion, its not fantasticaly bad, its even worst than that. I beleive I never seen so bad configuration especialy Misc1, Misc2, Misc3 tabs which are really funny. So as SamZen and Stance are one of those falks that live fine with whatever their favorite sw authors do, I don't feel urge to discuss obvious benefits of above proposal with blind groupies.

Farstone viewer has the best interface one can imagine, but its speed is not comparable to IrfanView. On the other hand Eye..something or something..Eye (was it QuickEye) that was mentiond around is the fastest viewer I ever seen, basicly instant, but it has the worst interface I ever found.

So, the good viewer is in between and it doesn't exist yet. However, Ifran probably made the best thing so far. Its only question how good it is for proffesional view as ppl tell me that all viewers that can be found around except ACDC don't reproduce color on calibrated proffesional CRT monitors like they are seen in PhotShop for instance. I don't know if this is true.
