No problem here. Unfortunately I cannot test under Vista x64 because I don't have access to any computer able to run it.
Do you get the same problem when you navigate manually to this location via Commands - Open desktop?

I don't have any problems either (XP SP2).
Interesting that Control Panel has been moved up in the tree in Vista - in XP it is placed as a folder under "My Computer" as seen here: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/controlpanel.png (so much for backwards compatibility).

Do you ALSO have a Control Panel entry under "Computer" ? - and if you do - does that one work in TC ?

Interesting...
I don't have any crashes here on Windows XP x64 (both from the tree view and navigating from Desktop, My Computer). By the way, TC shows only the CP icons listed in the "View x86 Control Panel Icons" group in real CP. All 64-bit elements are unavailable in this view (however, TC can start them immediately from %systemroot%\system32\*.cpl).

The crash could be caused by some third party control panel applet.

Are there any non-Microsoft entries in the x86 panel icons section in Explorer?

OK, please look for the nvidia.cpl and move it somewhere else. Is the bug still there?

Thanks for your tests. Did you try to go to that directory with the tree turned off?
