Icon associations

Post by *Sam_Zen »

Since the app Irfan View has several icons in the exe-file, I use this in TC to distinguish different file formats :
Image: http://www.xs4all.nl/~samzen/tcomm/iv_assocs.png
Procedure : File - Associate with.. - Edit type - Change icon.
But, from the start of this concept, I sometimes loose this setting on quite irregular moments, and have to redo the procedure.
Of course updating TC or IV would be logical moments, but it also happened in a steady situation, and I haven't been able
to analyze what could be the cause of it yet.
So I wonder : where is the information saved of these associations ? It's not present in wincmd.ini.
But is this a TC thing, is it IV, or is it system thing ?

This should be store in the registry:

Code: Select all

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\filetype\DefaultIcon
The name of the used file type is shown in TC's dialog
File - Associate with.. - Edit type
Who the hell is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk?
-- TC starter menu: Fast yet descriptive command access!

Thanks. I already feared for the registry, but, so it's a system thing.
At least I could save the proper reg-keys now and reset them in case of a malfunction.
