ACE32 issue
I just updated my old ACE32 v1.2 to the latest 2.6 and tried to use it from TC 6.53 and it didn't work at all. Error message from ACE32 was iirc "No files specified". Is the new version incompatible with older ones? I found an old thread having similar problems.

It sounds like it uses a different way to pass a list of file to ace. Have you asked the author of ace32?

No, I reverted to 1.2d as the integration with TC is important to me. Also, I usually just use zip/7zip/rar, but I was curious to see if ace also had improved (the 1.2d version is from 1998). Then I read the old thread here about problems with swapped parameters and thought I should just mention it, as the TC help file still just claims >1.2d for ace support.
I tried the new ace32 both in Win95 and XP and the result was the same. I couldn't see anything obvious in the ace readmes either or on their site. It's not important to me atm.

Compromise---

Hello !
- I'm using an old 2.1.1 version, it works still fine.
I didn't upgrade to the newest version, because I don't use ACE a lot, it's even rather rare, the most for ß-tests…
- This 2.1.1 version works here as well under Win 98 SE, as under XP-Pro with TC (through the LAN !).
- I guess that whether you could find out it still on some FTP / download site, it could be a good compromise…
… till Mr. Ghisler considers the problem in the detail.
- Hoping this helps…
Kind regards,
Claude

Why not using winace ?
Normally I use C:\Program Files\WinAce\winace.exe
And it works fine with me.
However, I heard somewhere that it may have some issues with selfextracting files. But then again, nowadays, who wants to use selfextracting files if they are going to be blocked by practically all e-mail systems ?

Self extracting files are extremely useful, especially Rars, you can extract a huge installer program, or use the installer, then grab the resultant files, create a rar sfx and include a .bat file to execute after unpacking...which will create an install for the program, including regKeys if necessary that is maybe 100KB larger than all the files in question...
As opposed to other installers like for example:
Microsoft's setx_setup.exe (610kb)
which installs the following:
(24k) D:\Programs\Resource Kit\setx.exe
(07k) D:\Programs\Resource Kit\setx_d.htm
(12k) D:\Programs\Resource Kit\setx_license.txt
(08k) D:\Programs\Resource Kit\ToolDownloadReadme.htm
It might also register a few components and add a few REG entries.
I forgot to monitor it with inCtrl5. But clearly a sfx would be better.

I'm not a regular user of ACE, so I don't know what they changed. It's really bad practice to make the command line interface incompatible with older versions.
Maybe some user of ACE can post a description of the command line parameters from the ACE 2.6 documentation?

OK: the documentation for commandline ACE 2.6 follows in this link:
http://atorg.net.ru/temp/ACE_2.60.RAR
I cannot find the the old ACE 2.04, so don't know what is the difference between 2.6 and that old one.
Edit:
The documentation for ACE 2.04 is here.

Alex, I put my ACE 2.04 directory online.
Be sure to also read http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=12850. I asked the Winace support several times but got no reply at all.

Yes, consider switching to some other - like 7z or sqx or rar

Change all @%%LN to %%FQ512 and every thing will work ok. But as I see it, you are better of using ace 2.04 which works with list files. And well, ace seems like a dead archiver, consider switching to some other - like 7z or rar.

That's really bad news. Can some user of ACE 2.6 try to make it work with list files? A list file is just a text file containing the names of the files to be packed. If this doesn't work, then I cannot add support for ACE 2.6.Well it seems to be a bug in ace 2.6, it apparently does not undertand list files
