Ftp manager - Add TABS support + extras

Post by *cos »

As web developer i have over 100 ftp accounts stored in TC's ftp manager, since TC is my main Ftp client.

While it is useful as a filemanager i still think it needs little improvement for the ftp section. (i know it's NOT a ftp client, but sinc eit has this feature i would like to have it better)

TABS:
the ability to organize ftp accounts under tabs, rather than have a huge list

RESIZE:
allow resizing of the ftm manager window. Somehow it's too small

EXTRA OPTIONS FOR FILE EDITING:
I find myself editing files online almost each day. Scenario is like this:
- open ftp account (login)
- F4 (edit) file (i did press EDIT, didn't i?)
- edit whatever necessary
- save
- close
and now ..
- Asking : Do you want to upload the file - YES DAMN IT :)
- Asking again: Do you want to Overwrite - YES YES YES ..

So i know this has been pointed out at least a gazilion times:
- is there a possibility to have a silent upload in the background once you hit the Save key? (i know you need to wit for the editor to close to apture the event or such, but maybe use some open source editor like SCITE and program an event inside, on save, somehow)
- maybe not on save, but at least some extra functions in the options panel

[] Automatically upload files on edit
[] On automatic upload after edit, make bkp file

just my 2 cents, let me know if this features sound reasonable and doable.

edit:
PASSWORD FIELD (ftp manager):
- make it readable. there is no reason to keep it hidden, if someone steals /uses my TC, he can still log in once the password is stored. therefor no reason to keep it "******".
I find myself a lot of times n the need to share the user / pass with my colleagues, and it's a pain in the ass to search through emails or such, whil it IS stored in TC, just not easy readable.

Some remarks and workarounds:

Check out these threads and express your support:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=1720
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=5391

See this plugin for organizing FTP accounts:
http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/wfx_FTPList.html

For reading the password field you can use this tool:
CopyText
or this:

I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

@SanskritFritz

thank you very much for the recommendations

I know usually there is a tool for everything out there :)

to be honest i own a company with 15 people, i am TOO busy to experiment :P.
That is why i wnated this all integrated as the "same" look and feel.

Anyway, thank you, i will look at that threads.
