[REQ] Save position on exit
Almost every Windows program I know of can save it's position when you exit it and restore it again when you start it. It would be nice if TC7 could add this feature.
In the ini file, we already have these settings:
SaveCommands=1 Save command lines when closing Total Commander (1/0)
Savepath=1 Save current paths when closing Total Commander (1/0)
Savepanels=1 Save settings when closing Total Commander (1/0)
I would like another one:
SavePosition=1 Save window position when closing Total Commander

I vote yes for freedom. But I normaly do not want to save position in programs. I actually more would like an option to reset my saved position to default without have to manually edit .ini.
Another releated thing is one/two panel mode with diffrent position/size settings. But these things are minor. Working with files are priority 1.

I vote no.
Reasons: I start TC via Autostart folder together with some other programs and they have a special arrangement. So I used "save position" a long time ago.
While in use, I often resize TC to fullscreen, but I don't want it to start that way.
On the other hand: why should I ever exit TC?

I voted yes, although I don't think that I will ever use it my self - as long as it is configurable I am OK with it.

Ofcourse YES
I think this is the most Important feature that TC is now lacking of.
I meant, why would TC behave differently of any other windows program?
And even worst, why should the non-windw0s-standard be the ONLY possible behavior of TC?
I respect all you who doesn´t want the windows position and size automatically remembered, but why do not include the OPTION to change that behaviors, that would be....well, OPTIONal.
I see no reason at all, that will justify the no-inclusion of the typical windows behavior, as an option in TC.
If you do not need it, alright, but do not take from us, the ones who need it, the chance to have it.
So, if the answer is no, do not vote. You will only be destructive. Nothing is going to change for you that do not want to use that ability of TC remembering position and size.
I repeat, the question here is: should TC include the ability of behave as any other windows program, as an option (the default behavior will be the same as now)?
I just want someone to give-me a valid reason against it.
Concluding, I vote YES.

Heartily disagree. It is needed as much as a swimming pool on the moon. And I hope that if this request makes it onto Christian's wishlist it will get the same priority as building a swimming pool on the moon.Max Born wrote:I think this is the most Important feature that TC is now lacking of.
Yet, as long as I do not have to use it, I will not fight against it too heavily.

Calling it
As long as no-one is forced to use the "Automatic Save Window Position on Exit" feature, I do not care if it is implemented or not.
Karl
is comedy in the best case or rather pure nonsense, as long as full Unicode support e.g has not been implemented.the most Important feature that TC is now lacking of

First I didn't care, as long as it can be switched off, because my TC always is fullscreen.
But my decision to vote 'no' was caused bij this argument :

Why not ? Maybe the behaviour of TC is better than other programs..Max Born wrote:I meant, why would TC behave differently of any other windows program?

Hey, folks.
Let's stop kidding now, please.
Requesting a feature and a new INI setting
If some users like to restore T.C. to the previous window position on startup, fine, no problem, because all those who like the current behaviour will simply keep the setting SavePosition switched off. And both groups of users will be happy.
Implementing the SavePosition feature should be a quick win from Christian's point of view, because almost all required programme routines should exist already: Today if you select "save position", T.C. determines its co-ordinates and saves them to the INI file. So all that may be needed wil be a routine to check the value of SavePosition and do so automatically before exiting provided SavePosition=1. T.C. will restore its saved window position on startup anyway.
Creating a poll about this feature request is fine and legitimate as well.
(Though telling from the "Should F2 become the default for renaming?" poll I wonder if polls impress Christian too much.)
There were two things which made me openly express that I do not need this feature (though a long time ago I had voted "yes" for the reasons explained above
):
Calling this feature
But the thing that really got my goat was this sentence:
Conclusion
There is really no need to argue about compie's feature request too passionately. Christian should simply implement the requested option SavePosition. And all those who like the old behaviour will switch it off.
There is really no need to exaggerate the relevance of the requested option.
There is absolutely no need to tell people how to vote or not to vote at all if they do not agree to the feature request.
Kind regards,
Karl

Calling this feature
is simply inadequate and ridiculous. (Full Unicode support e.g. is badly needed and still under construction. And there are a few things more that may need changing as can be told from the TC7 confirmed bugs that really affect the usibility of T.C. Automatically saving the current window position on exit is merely a goody.)the most Important feature that TC is now lacking
