Copy in Background Bug?

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Copy in Background Bug?

Post by *Sheepdog »

I noticed the following behavior:

I'm copying a 1 Gig Movie from DVD to HD. The speed is about 2000Kb per Sec.
I send the copy proces to the background and the speed decreases to about 200Kb per Sec. In addition I can hear thew head of the DVD-drive move like it has to read some packet from the inner and the next from the rim.

While doing this I'm also downloading some files from the internet thus my CPU usige is about 90 percent.

When I copy the movie in foreground it works fine without speed decrease.
When I add the file to the queue it works also fine.

Only when sending the copy process to the background the peculiar behavior occurs.

What is wrong there?

The exact same function is used for copying in the foreground and in the background! Therefore the other operations which you do at the same time must be causing the problem. You can check with filemon from www.sysinternals.com to find out what is happening on the DVD drive...
