Multiple Selection with Strg+Q: Show Sum of Sizes

Post by *mausebär »

Using the Strg+Q option on a selected item shows the size of the file resp. the volume.
It would be useful if several items are selected to show the sum of the selected sizes, e.g. for estimation wether the selected items would fit onto a CD or DVD. :D

Welcome!

You can see the size of the selected items in TCs status bar.

Yes, I've noticed that already.
That works also without the Strg+Q option. But it is not the exact value, and the size of folders is not shown at all.
With the Strg+Q only the size of the first marked folder is shown.

So my suggestion covers more the usage of Strg+Q in context with folders....
....Or is there somewhere a hidden option in the configuration which I haven't found yet....?

and the size of folders is not shown at all.
Sorry, I forgot: To show the folder size in the status bar, you have to activate this option:
configuration > options > operation > calculate space occupied by directories: when selecting with the space bar.

If you then select a folder with SPACE , it's size is shown in the file list and in the status bar. The units shown in the status bar can be configured in options > tabstops > footer

There you can set bytes as display unit to see the exact size.

Another possibility is to press CTRL+L after selecting the needed files/dirs. This will show a dialog with size informations on the selected items.

Have you tried using the command cm_GetFileSpace = Ctrl+L = "Files" -> "Calculate Occupied Space" - It does exactly what you describe - it even takes cluster size of the source and taget drive into consideration.

...I think that's exactly the same what StickyNomad described, or is there any difference?

...I'm just recognizing that the method using the space bar does't give the exact sum of the directorie's contents, just the Crtl+L delivers the exact value. Maybe there is still something wrong....

Regarding the inacuracy of the sum of all folders using the "space bar option" I'd like to post a screenshot, but unfortunately the forum doesn't offer an upload feature.....

What is your unit in the footer display? - you have to set it to bytes:

"Configuration" -> "Tabstops" -> "In footer" -> "bytes" / or set SizeFooter=0 in your wincmd.ini file

- in order to get exact numbers, that can be compared with the values you get with Ctrl-L
