File selection with checkbox
sometimes it is easier to select files for operation with a checkbox, similar as in web pages. especially for touchscreen and mouse-aholic users:-)
no need for a keyobard and i can quickly select a couple of files out of a huge directory (or not to select).
at the top of the checkboxes there should be a mark all/none action...
of course this feature should be made available/hidden in the configuration settings.

Hm, with the default right MB selection mode (options > operation), you can (de-)select files quite easily using merely the right mousebutton.
I don't know if it is possible to 'emulate' a RMB click on a touchscreen though...
I personally prefer to click on the files themeselves to (de-)select them (in the cases I use the mouse for that), as a tiny checkbox requires more accurate mouse-aiming.
But if kept optional, I'm not against this in general, although I'm quite sure I won't use those checkboxes.

Selection is not always good to use.
reasonable implemented checkboxes feature could be very nice add-on.
imagine, that you want to choose some specific files (i.e. couple of exe and jpg) from a directory which contains dozen of files.
Imho better solution could be to use checkboxes:
1. filter folder's content by *.exe,
2. select needed files,
3. filter by *.jpg,
4. select what you need,
5. Use option for "Show marked files only",
6. do whatever you want.
Check state should be remembered for current dir only and not reset until user leaves it or uses special command. RMB selection always disappear when you change filter for the view.
The best could be to use checkboxes with live filter possibility. It would be marvelous.

Nice screens but for consistent all checkboxes should remain on the same (left) side.
Whole feature could be provided by switching TC into special "Mark mode" (cm_SwitchMarkMode). All file operations and other features could be provided in the same way as standard selecting is. The only difference should be refreshing issue. Selecting different views should not clear out the check states. The only ways to clear it should be going up on the directory tree or switching Mark mode off. It is obvious that this should work for Branch view and search results (fit into list) too.

right mouse-clicking with touchscreen is possible but a little bit tedious. you have to stay 2-3 secs. (configurable) on screen, then it is assumed to be a right click.
therefore i think checkboxes are still the best option - also for selective file selection as explained in this thread.
thx for feedback.

Persistent file selection with checkbox in the filelist
Vista's Explorer comes already with this feature. The empty checkmarks are shown at mouseover.
I can show these file selection with checkbox even with Total commander by using the plugin: IEview on directories.
In the filelist the cursor is drawn with a activated checkmark.
When you move the mousepointer over the filelist, the checkmark is not shown.
You can only select a file with a direct click on the box.
A normal click will open/execute the file as usual.
I would like to add a feature request :
The possibility to make these markings persistent (durably).
The pictures show some features over the pathbar: UP|Home(\)|Path and History|Hotlist|CopyPath
I wonder what that is. Is it a different program ? Is it a functional breadcrumb bar ?

Sounds impossible to me. How can I use checkboxes to activate and deactivate a real time filter?fenix_productions wrote:The best could be to use checkboxes with live filter possibility.

What is impossible in filtering checkboxlist? Little misunderstanding?Stance wrote:How can I use checkboxes to activate and deactivate a real time filter?
We are discussing checkboxes. Live filter is something completely different. I've only mentioned that to make some bigger view of possibilities.
Imagine that functionality built in TC:

Add to this vision files list checkboxes possibility. Remember that check state should not be forgiven.

I've made two Flash movies for visualisation purposes:
1. LiveFilter with checkboxes:
http://fenixproductions.republika.pl/tc/filtercheck01.html
2. Same as above BUT with option for having checked files on the top of the list:
