Option: click opens directory always in new tab

Post by *oko »

New check-button in Options>>Tabs:
"Shift-click on folder (except in file window) opens folder in new tab"
If checked, opening folder behave like now (normal click = in the same tab, shift-click = in new tab). If unchecked then inverted behaviour (normal click = in new tab, shift-click = in the same tab). Note, that opening folder in file window always opens in the same tab (it is only one exception, where check/uncheck would not affect). It means that check/uncheck affects opening e.g. from CTRL+D menu, from history menu, clicking on drive button.

a lot of tabs will appear then. so it would be usable only with shortcut or button to turn it on/off, for that should be special tc command to turn it on/off.

why does somebody need that?

Because there are people who opens another folder rather in new tab to let current folder open. But it would not be applied to opening folder from file window (so browsing is still within one tab, just like now).

Simply:
if you often use SHIFT+click to open folder in new tab, check preference in Options "Shift-click on folder (except in file window) opens folder in new tab". In such case opening folder in the same tab would be still able but with SHIFT.

if you do NOT often use SHIFT+click to open folder in new tab, UNcheck preference in Options "Shift-click on folder (except in file window) opens folder in new tab". In such case opening folder in the same tab would be WITHOUT SHIFT.

To author: Is it possible to add such preference?

What would it be applied to then ?

I don't want nothing new. Only reversed behaviour when Shift is used to open folder. Now, shift is used to open in new tab, then shift would open in the same tab.

It means it would be applied in the same cases like now. It means opening folder from CTRL+D menu, from history menu, clicking on drive button... (I do not remember where else)

Nor now Shift click functions when you click on folder in file window, it functions as continous selection. So this behavior I do not want to change.
