FTP transfer very slow

Post by *jerryray »

I just tried sending files to my ftp server, avg 9-12k trasfer rate.

When using cuteftp ver8 , I get 500k transfer rates.

Would this be normal for total commander to be so slow?

I have "almost" the same issue. My transfare rate with TC is only 50% compared with Filezilla FTP Client.

Anyone can explain how to tune TC to work at full speed?

Try to increase the upload block size from 512 to 8192 or even 32768 (you need to test it yourself):

wcx_ftp.ini
[General]
UploadBlockSize=8192

Well. mine went from 56 KB to 60 KB was all and I am on an 8 Mbit cable connection. But it has always been slow for me using TC for uploading files to the server. I just figured it was throttled.

I have tried 8192 and all the way up to 32768 and my FTP upload speed is still stuck at 50-60k. I am on an 8Mbit connection and the download speed is right on the money. The upload speed isn't even close. Has anyone figured out a work-a-round for this yet?

Maybe because your internet connection is asymmetric (Download 8MBit / Upload 400-500KBit)?

My upload speed is supposed to be around 365 k, not 60 k.

Are you sure?
Most ISP offer only asymmetric internet connections (at least in private area).
For example:
http://www.mediacomcc.com/internet_online.html
"...download speeds of up to 8 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 512K(bps)"

Do you get the expected upload speed with other software?

I am on medicom. I thought it was only 365 but it is 512? When I use CuteFTP, is it faster and closer to what mediacom says it should be. It has always been at 60 or below even when I was on the 3 Mbit plan.

Maybe because CuteFTP shows the speed in kilo bit per second and TC in kilo byte per second?

60 kByte/s = 480 kBit/s

Why has it always been that same speed from 3 Mbit to 8 Mbit? I think it was showing as 60 kBits in TC.
