Sometimes I have to synchronize various folder structures, e.g. for transport or backup purpose.
Doing that I often have two pretty similar looking windows on the left and right hand side of the TC.
Even because the interchangeability of the TC, it allows you to confuse master and slave windows, at first glance.
The drive buttons etc. can give you the crucial information, but this often just a tiny letter.

I would love to have an option to change the background colours of the path heading-background,
dependent on the path that is appointed.
like the existing option:
Configuration/Option/Colour "Define colours by file type..."
However I think that feature would also fit the "directory menu".

e.g.
path c:\ -->red
path g:\backup\ -->light yellow
default: -->-white

Or more sophisticated, for the case of drive letter changing
drive.name.("MyBook-500GB") -->white
drive.name.("MircoSD-Mobile") -->pink

If you often sync the same structures, I recommend that you save the paths and options via the "folder" button in the upper left. This way you will load the source always on the same side.

So, this is really cool! I come here for the first time ever, to place a suggestion and decide to search the forum first, if someone else has come up with the idea. However, my exact idea is the topmost post in the suggestions forum. What is the probability for that???

Anyway, to make a long story short: I often have similar problems to Benno. I tend to have a lot of tabs open, showing subdirs of various projects. And folder names like 'src' and 'WEB-INF' tend to appear very often in various subdirs.

So my idea is just about what Benno describes: have the opportunity to color code tabs based on their dir.
For example, for every dir under Project/P1 the tab has a yellow background, for every dir under Project/P2, the tab has blue font color, except for Project/P2/ImportantFolder, which also has a red background.

This would rock!

I also heavily use the 'folder functionality' you mentioned, but that alone just doesn't quite cut it for me.
