Hi Guys.
(First of all i'm sorry for my english)
My name is Artur, i'm new on this forum (but i've working in IT for over 13years)
I have few nice ideas how to improve total commander !
I'll try to explain them but because my english if it will be hard to understandt then i can post pictures prepared on some imaging program to show it more clearly.
1)Total commander needs something like Home Button , this button should appear from left or right side of drive letters strip, when you press this button you can see something like list of directories (with customizable color) but it will be not just directories , it will be your FAVOURITES directories, like music folders , picture folders, installers, trashes and other... whatever user wants... when you double click on it it just go to choosen folder in exact way when you open directory... i think that it is important that this so called "home button" will be on the same row as drive letter buttons because it will be very easy to access
2) this will be a little improvement - copy operation, when you copy lot of files from one drive to another sometimes it would be nice that you use something like UNNATTENDED check box on copy window. What it means: when you are away and you have some buggy files with cannot be copied from some reasons it can be just skipped without waiting for your response and whole operation continues to next file in "queue". At the end of operation or when user uncheck the box it can print something like report about problematic files (report can be feeded to listbox, saved to txt file or whatever... )
3) the biggest improvement (if you know FileMaster from AmigaOS you should know what i talking about):
when you look on two files pannels left and right, it would be wonderfull to put configurable buttons column...
I'll try to explain it more clearly:
What i mean column.... just imagine that you make empty space beetween left and right panel (space will be have width little shorter than any button on the bottom (F3 View ,F4 Edit ,F5 etc...) , now imagine that you have about 20 - 30 buttons (each under each) (depend on total commander window height of course) each button height is equal to the bottom buttons (F3,F4 etc)
this column will be fixed in width and when you shrink left or right panel it shoud just move , not resize
now , when you first time run after installation total commander it can have this column either hidden or with buttons preconfigured with some options (i explain it later)
now , if any button will have any option on it it should contain customizabled caption (pack, compress, shrink etc) on it and customizabled function (like preprogrammed "macros" functions but not only, for example you can run winamp), if it doesn't have any option it will apear as just filled gray rectangle (not button)
whole column will be have two states, when you press right mouse button on it (or when you press some keyboard key (like ctrl or alt) ) it could appear in different background filling on buttons and different functions/captions...
ok, how you can use it in real life:
you can have pack/unpack pair (pair means one button but two states)
you can have show/hide pair button hidden files
you can have split/combine pair button and many many more
user can decide what functions will be assigned to each state and if someone wants he can make copy / pack operations as well for example...
ok... thats all at the moment ... will be nice to hear from all of yours what you think about this guys!
Regards.
Artur.
FEW NICE IMPROVEMENTS TO TOTALCOMMANDER

1. There is directory hotlist button besides the current path box in form of a asterisk. If you cannot see it, check confoguration>layout>show buttons for history list or hotlist. Otherwise press CTRL+D. In there you can store not only your favourite dirs, but also files and commands.
2. Do you see that Options button in the copy dialog box? (after pressing F5) There you can select options for skipping or whatever, so no waiting for conformation.
3. That feature has been asked and disscused before. Check here or search the forum

1) Ok, i know about this option but, how you can copy files or folder using drag&drop operation to folder from this list, you must first select asterisk, choose folder and drop something, what if you have new hard disk with many data types and you want to sort your files by copy them to MANY different folders, this is very uncomfortable.... have it in my way with "home button" will be MUCH more user friendly and much easier...
2) thank you very much, i really never seen this option... .
3) i've using amigaos and file master for years, and when i switch to PC i always seen lack of this "toolbar" in total commander, is any hope for adding it in the future ?
Regards.
Artur.

...or create links or even better than that – junctions – to your favourite dirs and throw them in a directory of your choice, which you drag&drop to your button bar. Add a house icon and the comment "Home Button", so you feel at home when hovering and pressing it.
BY THE WAY, I REALLY LIKE TO READ CAPS, just as much as reading bold text, but my true love are rainbow colours.
Apropos colours, you can colour all your favourite links or junctions with TC, guess where? Right, directly in TC options under "colours", just by entering a directory name and assigning a colour of your choice.
