Zip files in the current directory and open them afterward

Post by *acolyte »

HI,
Can I zip/pack files into the current directory. normally TC zip files from left panel into right panel and feel it's not so easy to use.

After packing files, I would like to open them again like in Windows Explorer without unpacking.
Would this be possible?

Just open current directory in both panels, and you will have zip file in the same folder as files.

Configuration-> Options-> Packer ->Treat archives like directories

This works for sure. But isn't it better, if I can do this in one panel?

OK, the problem is, I can click into this zip file. But when I want to open the file, I should first unzip it into temp folder of the system. However, in windows xp, I can directly open files in the zip file.
TC cannot do this?

When you pack files by pressing Alt+F5 you can simply delete path of your new archive, and leave only archive filename.
Example:
after pressing Alt+F5 on file/folder you have something like this
zip: "c:\path\archive.zip"
change it to
zip: "archive.zip"
this will create archive.zip in current folder.

Windows does exactly the same thing, it unzip the file into temp folder, but instead of TC it didn't ask you for permission for doing it.

acolyte,
Can I zip/pack files into the current directory.
Define a shortcut for cm_PackFiles which uses Ctrl. Or define a button in the Button Bar for cm_PackFiles and hold Ctrl while clicking. Or hold Ctrl while clicking Pack... in the Files menu. Awkward, but it works (at least it should).
