Suggestion: Static prefix text to tab names

Post by *Mercade »

Hello,

If you set the name of a tab, it changes when you change the directory. In order to reserve a particular tab for a certain (sub)tree, it would be helpful to have a static prefix to the (dir) name.

Reason for asking is this: I use a lot of similarly structured trees for different projects, i.e. projects named 123, 234, 345 and dirs named data, img, src, you get the idea. With the tabs that means I can have three dirs named "src" in my TC. (and no, I'm not allowed to rename dirs to 234_src)
It should be helpful to have a construct that allowed me to reserve a tab for project 123 and get something like "123: src" and "234: img" with "123" being my static prefix and "src" being the dynamic dir name.

See example picture here.

Thanks for your consideration.

Just enable "Locked, but directory changes allowed" option at setting of the name.
This will preserve the name though you change the directory.

Thanks for your feedback, SQA Wizard. Indeed when I use the option "Locked, but directory changes allowed" then it will preserve the set name, but I will not show the name of the directory. Following my example above, I can get it to show my project number (e.g. "123") all the time, but I won't see the name of the current dir. My proposal was to see the fixed name AND the directory name.

Isn't the complete active path currently visible in the "Current directory" field?
During navigation (mouse or keyboard), enabling the tool tip shows also the complete path of the tab.

On the other hand, a configuration option like

Code: Select all

Rename
-----------------------------------------
New name:

[123: [=tc.name] ][+]

[ ] Lock this tab
[x] Locked but directory changes allowed
-----------------------------------------
                [ OK ] [ Cancel ]
would be the most flexible way.

Regards,
Holger
