TC7 flickers / blinks / flashes in panels with network drive

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC7 flickers / blinks / flashes in panels with network drive

Post by *heeloud16 »

I have a problem with TC7 on my new Vista x64 machine. TC7 runs well, but for some reason a panel with a network drives flashes / blinks /flickers continuesly.

I saw an other post in which Ghister told to add the :
DeviceChange=0 to the wincmd.ini. I did this already, but I keep having the same problem.

So each normal hard drive of my machine is no problem, but for every network drive the panel starts to blink. And then not all files but some of them and mainly the blue selection bar blinks.

Is this a problem with my network card driver? Or a setting in the TC7 configuration?

Hopefully some of you has a solution.....

Do you use any of the auto-reread options in Configuration - Options - Refresh (lower part)? Seems like something is constantly changing on these drives...

No I don't use any of that. Nothing there has been selected. Everything is empty.

To narrow down the problem is that I can inform you that this blinking/flickerking only occurs when a opened directory has one or more .exe files. So in directories without .exe files everything is ok, but when going into a directory which has one ore more .exe files the blue selection bar starts to blink including the icon of the .exe file.
And all of this only happens on network drives.

By the way I am always using the Full view on both panels.

Hopefully this is a bit more information to be able to find a solution.
Thanks in advance Chrisitian!

A thought…

:) Hello !

• Just a thought : Extracting the icons from the EXEs could be a (partial) cause of flickering…
- Please, check the Options >> Configuration >> Icon and tick the box
[x] EXE / LNK not on net if it's not already.
- Also, a virus-scanner could disturb the display.

Thanks for your comments. This works partially. Now my blue bar isn't blinking any longer in network drives with .exe files. However something else is happening now. Now when I switch panels between a normal drive and a network drive all files/directories on the network panel blink very shortly. This is something I've never seen.

Is there a solution for this as well?

I do have a second problem now which is the icon overlay of Tortoise SVN icons. I don't see any SVN icons any more on network drives after selecting the option Configuration > Option > Icons > EXE/LNK not on net.

So indeed my initial prolem is solved of blinking blue bar and .exe icons on network drives.
However now not able to see the icon overlay for SVN and the fact that all files/directories blink shortly while switching the panels is very unpleasant.

Hopefully there is an other solution for me.

I'm not running any virus scanner at the moment. So that can't be one of the problems.

Strange, maybe Tortoise was causing the blinking?

I had the same problem with TC7.04 on Vista 64 + Novell Netware drive mappings and also solved it by turning off "EXE/LNK not on net".
