1. Create an internal association for some filetype, i.e. *.txt
2. Create a file that matches it's association.
3. Open the file from the TC command line i.e. by typing it's full path and name there and confirming with return. TC uses system association.
The same happens if you create a button with an internally associated file, with em_ commands, in the directory hotlist, in a start menu, possibly somewhere else too.

This is by design. Internal associations are used in file lists only. Currently it's not planned to support them in any other places, sorry.
