Quicksearch / filter keyboard navigation
Christian,
I would like to suggest to use some modifier key (Win, Ctrl or Alt) to be able to navigate both within the file list and within the quicksearch window. For instance Home, End, Left, Right could work in both, like this (I will use Win as the default modifier):
Home - goes to start of quicksearch field (like now)
End - goes to end of quicksearch field (like now)
Left - goes one letter left in quicksearch field
Right - goes one letter right in quicksearch field
Backspace - deletes one letter to the left of the cursor in the quicksearch field (like now)
Delete - deletes one letter to the right of the cursor in the quicksearch field (like now)
Win-Home - goes to the first match in the file list
Win-End - goes to the last match in the file list
Win-Left - goes to the previous match which is at least one column left
Win-Right - goes to the next match which is at least one column right
Win-Backspace - goes updir
Win-Delete - deletes the selected file(s)
There'd be more combinations with Shift and Win-Shift, where Shift would select the text in the quicksearch field and Win-Shift would select files in the file list.
Also - Ctrl-A and Win-Ctrl-A.
Just an idea which would be useful IMO.
TIA for consideration

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

If not the full keysupport will be changed like described, please consider the following:
I know left and right-keys are currently used for changing column in column view. Would be nice to detect if current view is detail-view and handle left right keys then for cursor movement.

As I said before I personally don't need editing capabilities within the quicksearch dialog.
If I can't do what I need in less than a second it's not quick anymore and the whole idea is lost. Keys that produce non printable chars should act on the file lists, assigned hotkeys should do what they advertise.

TC for Linux please!

That really depends. In any case, the keys (in this case Win-Left and Win-Right) should behave just like they do in the file list.Changing column in column view is not really needed for the few remaining items.

Support for that - there is absolutely no reason why plain Left and Right key can not work, when NOT in Brief View.Would be nice to detect if current view is detail-view and handle left right keys then for cursor movement.
I can not fully support the Win-Left/Right idea - Not all keyboards has a Win key! But maybe optional or better using another modifier combination.

petermad,
I also think the shortcuts should be redefinable (- having internal commands, but I do not know if that isn't too much to ask).

Well, that's true. So perhaps Ctrl- or Ctrl-Alt?I can not fully support the Win-Left/Right idea - Not all keyboards has a Win key!

Personaly I would prefer if Home/End would jump to the first/last match in file list instead of jumping to the start/end of the search box.
Thinking about it... what if it did both. You're either looking at the file list so you want that... or the edit box which means file list don't concern you.
Additionaly you migth want to enable the "*" key on the numerical keypad to select all files in the filter.
Quitting the filter would keep the selection.

In many programs Ctrl-Home and Ctrl-End jump to the first and last entries. I would support this behaviour in the file list while quicksearch is active.
Windows key I would not support - its position on changing keyboard is not as standardized as are Ctrl and Alt keys and its usage is not as frequent as Ctrl and Alt, which makes its intuitive use limited.
