[solved] Some characters can not be typed in QuickSearch

Post by *petermad »

This concerns using QuickSearch with search dialog.

I use Danish keyboard layout, where the letters @ £ $ { [ ] } € are typed by holding down the AltGr key and pressing 2 3 4 7 8 9 0 e.

If I search for example for @test (which exists), I can enter the letter @ by pressing AltGr+2 - but only if there is not a 2test (or any other beginning with 2) file/folder in the directory. If so TC replaces @ with 2 in the search dialog.

I consider it a bug, and hope it can be changed.

Confirmed with Polish (Programmer) layout. It's not working for sticky ` key* too.

*) you need to press ` + a to get ą (or ` + s for ś).

P.S. Samuel's tcmatch.dll has no problems.

Cannot confirm with German keyboard. AltGr+2 creates the @ here too, but AltGr+2 always finds the file starting with the '@' and never with the 2.

Maybe you use quick search option Ctrl+Alt+Letters?

Cannot confirm with Polish Programmers layout (on WinXP SP3 PL).
Since TC7.5 PB3 Quick Search - Letters with search dialog works perfectly.

In previous versions it was impossible for me to search for ą if existed files started from a.

Cannot confirm. `+a searches for ą, etc.

Definitely. Has been the default for opening quick search till T.C. 7.04a, has it not?

It may be somewhat awkward, but you can open quick search by pressing ctrl-alt-a e.g., then backspace, next altgr+[ e.g.

If there is a matching name it will be found. But if there is a name like 8something, then 8something will be found instead. (altgr+8 gives [ on a German keyboard)

Yet, I assume that the side effect of opening quick search by ctrl-alt-letter has been explained in the other thread about the same issue.

I think that I can find a solution for Alt+Letters. However, these is none for Ctrl+Alt+Letters, sorry. If you use such accented characters regularly, you will have to switch to "Letters with search dialog".

I'll just shamelessly plug the idea of tapping (pressing and releasing) Alt, or possibly Ctrl, to start quick search again .. I think it would solve the extended character problems and also the shortcut clashes with other programs some users are reporting :).

While Ctrl+Alt+random letter+backspace may work, it is just too darn many keys to press for something used that much :D.
