7Z and Unicode

Post by *RFriedr753 »

Hello,

I installed the 7Z-Plugin and have problems with archives which has filename/directories with cyrillic/polish letters.

The polish ogonek ("e" with "tail) is shown only as "e", cyrillic letters inly as underscore "_".

If I use the 7Z-Gui all is alright,

Did I something wrong?

TIA

Shalom
F. :-)

It just looks like this plugin does not support Unicode characters set. You can do nothing with that except waiting for WCX update (if packer plugins support that, I am not sure).

In the meanwhile you can either create custom buttons, user commands or Internal Associations for standard 7zip GUI.

Thats sort of sad.

So hopefully the Plugin will be updated or maybe Mr. Ghisler will integrate 7Zip in the program.

I don't like the 7Zip-GUI and work the whole day with TC, so I will look hopefulla forward for a fix or integration.

You could try MultiArc with 7-Zip. See here.

Does MultiArc function with portable TC? This means is it possible to give a path to the /za without knowing in advance which drive letter will be assigned?

TIA

Yes MultiArc supports environment variables. Use something like

Code: Select all

Archiver=%commander_path%\Plugins\wcx\MultiArc\Packer\7-Zip\7z.exe
And I wouldn't use 7za.exe but the full blown 7z.exe + 7zG.exe for GUI support. But it certainly depends on your usage scenarios.

Tried ist again, is a bit strange.

I created the directory with the cyrillic letters in TC, I copied via cu&paste from my browser. TC shows all very well.

The i packed it with 7za, v4.65. No probs.

If I unpack with 7zG -> no problem
If I unpack with 7z-FileManager -> no problem
If I unpack directly with 7za oder 7z.exe in a command shell, all letters are garbled.

I tried SpeedCommander an all went well, the internal packer did everything perfectly, but I want to use TC as always ;-)

Looks a bit strange to me.

Hi,
console is not Unicode unless you change codepage, and in this case i'm not sure that multiarc will support it :(

As said you should wait for a new 7zip wcd with unicode support as 7z internal packer is not yet agreed by M. Ghisler author (discussion about this is quite interesting) ...

But i think that (almost)freecommander use a wcx plugin that should be compatible with TC ;)

It is interesiting that in the console 7za can pack unicode, but not unpack it :-) on my W2K3-Server.

I hope that the devoloper of the WCX (there is a new devoloper, because the polish one has dropped the project as far as I can see) will implement it.

It would fantastic if Mr. Ghisler would implement ist, that it is possible showd me the other product.

Thanks for the hint with FreeCommander, I don't know the other products very well, first I used NC for more than a decade, and then, wenn NC4Win was not the product I dreamed of, I used TC and love it.

7Zip ist a very good packer, I can easily pack very huge amounts of data, can tell him easily what I want and he is free for use. Don't know any better packing programm.

Strange:

If I cange in the shell the font to "Lucida Sans" than 7za is able to function correctly, but not if i use it in TC.

Windows & Unicode areg veeerrryyy strange :-)
