Copy to sort files alphabetically

Post by *krojc »

Hello,

I've got mp3 car radio that by default (!!!) plays files as they were saved on the CD or USB key. If I want mp3's to be played alphabetically or in the order the songs are on a CD, then I have to make a playlist.

I found the thread about making playlists with TC and to my astonishment, one way (dir /b *.mp3 >.\playlist.m3u) makes the playlist in the exact order as my car radio plays them by default; as the files were saved on the disk ... which is also the "unsorted view" in TC (now I understand why this option occupies space in the menu :) ).

The question is: how can I automatically "copy" the files to sort them also on the disk. Momentarily I have to copy alphabetically all files to new location and then back every time I add mp3s ...

Thank you

Moving is much faster than copying, so if your mp3 player can handle subdirs, do the following:
1. Create a subdir
2. Move all files to that subdir (Shift+Drag or F6)
3. Switch to the subdir
4. Sort by name
5. Move the files back to the parent

And what?s about to open the m3u-file and sort the entries (with Ultraedit, Winword, ...)

Yes, sorting m3u came to mind.
I'd just rather have files sorted the right way from the beginning ...

I also want to support an option for an "sorted copy".

Of course you can do it manually. But if you have to handle a lot of files an subdirs, such an option would be very comfortable.

SubdirCopyOrder=5 in wincmd.ini will sort subdirs like they are sorted in the current file panel when copying.
