ext2fs error when copying big files ?

after installing this plugin I finally could acces my ext3 partition for read only, which is great for me.
Cause I only need to copy some big files from ext3 to another ntfs partition.

When i copy small files all is well, but on copy big files (.ts-files > 2Gb) I instantly got an error that says there was an error downloading the file.

any ideas ?

Are you sure that you are using the latest version of plugin and the latest version of TC?

Sorry, this plugin doesn't currently support files > 2 GB. This feature was added to EXT2 sometimes after the creation of the plugin, and I cannot find any information how this is implemented.

Over searching for the internet for hours and testing many different tools for accessing ext2 partition and be able to copy file > 2GB

this tool is finally working and copy relatively fast from etx3 to ntfs.

Als the mounted partition is accesible from within totalcommander.

If there would be an update for the plugin of total commander i'm still interested.

How about trying a bit more conservative solution first, as in shooting e-mail to Stephan Schreiber who has been doing a stable Ext2fs.sys driver for years, and talking a bit to see if he'd be willing to do a TC plugin as a contract or something (Ext2fs.sys is freeware and he asks people for PayPal donations - meaning that might be interested in doing a light commercial project).

The importance of having a full read/write pluging instead of driver is actually growing since people are doing a lot of USB stick based stuff, bootable USB-s in particular, and Fat32 just doesn't scale beyond 4GB while USP sticks are already at 16/32GB asa standard. So, the commonly recommended way ends up being gparted to make extra partitions (bootable USB-s are grub4dos anyway) and then put more iso-s and ing-s there. You can imagine the hassle of having to reboot just to put a new iso or music or video on a stick, but on the other side diver install is not viable at all since USB stick connects to all kinds of other people's boxes and laptops by definition.

Back to the conservative-solution-first idea, that Ext2Fsd sounds way to adventurous and aiming at making ext3 a bona fide Win32 fs, which is a noble cause, but for a flexible file manager plugin it's a bit overboard, as in no one really cares about journaling while just copying some files back and forth. Plus, the version is still way deep in experimental zone and is GPL-ed , meaning that unless the guy is a TC fan it might get hard to motivate him to do a plug-in.

Guys, sorry if this out of topic, but does anybody know of a RELIABLE driver for Win7 x64 that can read and WRITE, ALL ext4, ext3 file systems?

I´m dual booting Win7x64 and Ubuntu x64, and I hate the idea of having to setup a fat32 (arrrgghhh) partition to exchange data instead of reading directly ...

[face=consolas]Not that I know, but it can be done thru VMWare with an ext4 capable linux(virtual machine), add your real/physical hdd to the virtual machine and share with Samba

There are a lot of tutorials about this, incluso en español.

I prefer to reboot 80 times in a day and write to the ntfs from linux. [/face]

Yes, I do, in effect write to nfts from the linux partition, but for the moment I am more a windows guy than a linux guy, just learning and toying arround with linux.
What I´m doing now is duplicating the data I need to share to a fat32 partition (I mean duplicating, because I HATE the idea of having my personal docs, music, etc on fat and not ntfs). So when I mod the data from the linux os I can copy it again from shared partition to my win data partition.

AS for VM, I use VirtualBox (Sun) for testing other oses, and for some old xp app that won't run on 7.

Well, I guess that sooner or later somebody will come up with a ext4 driver for windows ....
