Use other fonts for Vista/Win7

Post by *Skybird »

Vista/Win7's Clear type makes the default font very bad. MS Sans Serif is a much clearer Font than Microsoft Sans Serif.

I did already the Clear Type Optimization in the Control Panel but MS Sans Serif is at 8pt+bold still the better one.

Total Commander uses Microsoft Sans Serif mainly for Unicode support now. If you dislike Cleartype, why not turn it off? I did on my computers because it looks so blurry...

Hello, Skybird.

Switching off Cleartype on Vista may have unwanted visual side effects, as you said. Using MS Sans Serif instead of Microsoft Sans Serif may cause Unicode display problems.
So you might consider configuring T.C. to use such a combination e.g.:

Karlchen wrote:(4) Total Commander 7.50 auf Vista (1xSegoe UI,9,b - 1xSegoe UI,8,b und 1xTahoma,8 )
Kind regards,
Karl

Hi Karlchen,
your suggestion is good, I switched to it now (I didn't know that MS Sans does not have Unicode support, thanks Christian for the Info!).

I already tried Segoe UI,8,b for the file lists, but this is some kind of unreadable, I cannot tell really why, maybe I am used to a more bold font and in 8pt its quite light. But in 9pt its fine now :)

@Christian: I don't want to turn Clear Type off because then I have to change the Windows UI Fonts across the system too because they look much better with Clear Type.

Thank you!
