Use another thread for waiting for drops

Post by *m^2 »

Situation:
I open an archive in WinRAR. Then I drag something from the inside of the archive and drop on TC.
Problem 1: TC hangs until RAR finishes extraction and actually gives the files to TC.
Problem 2: When TC receives the files, it suddenly pops up. The focus is on the cancel button. I almost cancelled a drop while writing this post.

Yes that is the way how windows handles drag events: It notifies the destination application to wait on drop until the data is set ready.

Does it mean that whole application has to hang and there's no way around?

Well, try it with Windows Explorer as drop target and see if it behaves different ...

It doesn't answer my question.

m^2, what was your question? You only stated two problems.

Yes, I stated 2 problems. And when sqa_wizard told that one of them is normal, I asked whether it's unavoidable. Hm...the quoted part ends with a question mark, doesn't it?

Actually the more important question is whether Christian will fix it and I asked the previous one because "it's unavoidable" would answer the main one too.

If it's possible it would be nice to have a chance to work with TC while dropping files to it as described in this topic.

Just wanted to add that the same applies to dragging from TC and dropping on some other program.
